Does anyone regularly watch them, here? No Klay. No Wiseman. Kuminga is a rookie. Revived the corpse of Wiggins' career. Draymond still can't shoot. Jordan Poole came out of nowhere. As they're 11-1, they're on pace for 75 wins in an 82 game season. Curry could realistically be MVP. Kerr could realistically be CotY. Poole could be MIP. And as a team? The headlines could be recycled ones from 3-6 years ago.
They tanked 2 years ago, now they are to new heights. Top 5 franchise over the course of the last decade Owner who is willing to pay. Long term coach Long term system Sustainability, consistency. Probably above all, Steph scoring 40 on many nights. Those only guarantee you a Top 6 spot, they are figuring out the new rules.
That statement above is exactly the opposite what the Worriers were doing, laying eggs into 1 basket. Found ways to get more depth and somehow Wiggins is playing decent Defense. Never said that 1st year players are guaranteed to ball out, we see it now with the Rockets. It gave that team the breather that they needed to sneak up on top again. Poole was a young player during the tank seasons. Got healthy, had key additions.
Like @Air Langhi said, none of the players they've drafted have really contributed. And they haven't exactly signed anyone that should really elevate them. Not knocking you for your opinion, because I agree in some aspects - long term coach and they still have Curry + consistency. But aside from a few role players swapped out for a few role players, nothing seems to have changed, really. It's just super interesting to see the Warriors playing the best team basketball in the NBA.
Normal fans can't see it, I am not sorry for saying it. By their 3rd year they will or they get sent somewhere else. You have to have an eye out for it. Players do not blow up just on your command. That is actually the scary part that they did not and one of them will like Poole. (If your whole argument is none of their rookies or sophomores contributed and they are still that good)
I was actually bored enough to watch them last year with Wiseman in the beginning. Oubre actually was trying but he had little chemistry (trying to hunt down PGs and SGs), shot the worst percentage of his career, and they weren't running up and down like the Hornets now, they were more entertaining than this year's Rockets. Their attempt at Work in Process did not look that bad. With Curry and Draymond in and out of the lineup, they were definitely better than their record.
They are a very good team, but not title contenders IMO without a 90% Klay back. Right now they are winning because of three things: One: Curry's effect on the court (shooting, screening, cutting, moving, effort in defending). TWO Kerr's system every player is buying into and running the motion offense and swarming, rotating defensive schemes to a tee. The roles of every player is well-defined and as a result, there is full effort and zero hesitancy/doubt. THREE: The soft schedule where they played 4 of the worst teams and only a couple "good" teams to start the season gave them a huge boost in confidence as well as practice. A lot of the things the Warriors do right now, won't work as well in the playoffs. Curry is out there a ton with lineups of Looney, iggy, Dray, Poole or Iggy, Porter, GP2, Dray or Looney, Nemania, GP2, Iggy. These lineups all have 3 below average or worst shooters. It's working right now because teams are getting confused by the movement/screening/cutting and the Curry's effect. But in the playoffs without another real offensive threat, Teams will adjust and their effort, intensity and game plan will constrict them like the Raptors did in 19.
Doubled down on the D in their "3 & D" roots. Maybe organization went back to the "drawing board" before Durant. While Splash Brothers are 2 of best all time shooters, they didnt have other great shooters besides Harrison Barnes. They used to kill teams with Andrew Bogut & Shaun Livingston Got healthy at their key spots. Hate or love him, a healthy Draymond still can impact games. Andre Iguodala really is a special sauce for that team. He comes back, and they're magically playing like the "Death Lineup" days again.
Because they have a superstar that doesn't need the ball to be effective and also doesn't rely on the refs. They've built a culture of unselfishness and ball movement. Contrast that to the Rockets where we go for stagnant offense.
It is clear as day. By design. They have vision, that vision might not pan out every season but it sure does pan out 3 seasons out of 5. They know every chess piece by heart (attention to immense details) and who can possibly substitute them if necessary. They know where they going to move off ball, and they get them to their sweet spots very precisely. The question was always consistent D, if they can play it over an extended time, the Offense will come. (3rd Quarter emphasis - they know exactly how and when to dominate after the break- in the 3rd - in order to get the momentum rolling into the 4th - raining 3s) And their secrecy with players, you never know who they really favor in development. They say the same things all over and over again/ it rarely leaks compared to other teams.
