Steve Patterson built a team full of champions that won back to back titles. Daryl Maury can't even put together a team that's capable of winning a fantasy basketball league. Steve Patterson > Daryl Morey...enough said.

What a great thread Tinman. Lakers should go after Jerry Buss and the Bulls should go find Jerry Krause.

he is as much a legendary GM as he was a player.

is he still advising the warriors? this warriors team could be credited to him as well.

morey isn't a bad GM, he's one of the best in the league, but he has too much power. he's gotta stay out of coaching.

he's also got his hands tied by an owner who refuses build through the draft, but refuses to spend. figure that one out. i think morey has done a good job given les' orders.

Charlie would have to pay 15X what he sold for to regain the franchise; and water, coke, foodstuffs etc etc were unreasonable back then, too.

The Rockets were for the working folk of Houston back then, not the corporations of today.

The Summit was for regular folk

i think this is the bigger problem with the rockets. the owner, not the GM.

imagine if les was ok missing the playoffs this year so we could rebuild? i'm not saying tank like the sixers, but at the deadline sitting on the playoff bubble with our first round pick at stake, why not sell off more role players for picks? use the cap space to retool over the summer. why not trade dwight for whatever we could get? didn't morey say any dwight trade could compromise our playoff chances? so what?! none of us care about making the playoffs just to get swept in the first round. only les wants us in the playoffs for the money.

morey has a tough job to win without really being able to retool, and to win without getting into the tax.

if you think about it, the one year les finally pays the luxury tax is the first year morey seems to be on the hot seat lol. i'm not saying morey is perfect, but we should look at the moves he makes, or doesn't make, through the lens of les' orders to win and not spend.

Les has always been about the money. We changed our uniforms after 2 titles because he thought a new design would sell more.

I'm pretty sure the most untouchable Rocket was not Hakeem under Les , it was Yao.

isn't this his main money maker? i'd rather an owner who's not living off of what the rockets earn each year. i guess that's my point about morey. i think he's a good GM but is steered in greedy directions from the owner. that and he needs to give up more power to the coach.

Well, just this past year, he spent his time as Texas' Athletic Director pissing off coaches, players, and fans, and refusing to spend a dime on assistant coaches. UT fired his ass. I don't want him for the Rockets. No way.
