Steve Patterson was the GM, he didn't dictate the philosophy of the coaches.

Patterson fired Chaney cause the players weren't responding to him, so he promoted Rudy T.

He as great eye for talent.

what's annoying is that people here are uniformed. For Example, Patterson wasn't the one who screwed up and didn't draft Durant, that was Kevin Prichard

I guess some people don't know about Rockets history

THERE IS NO BETTER ROCKET TEAM IN HISTORY THAN THIS ONE THAT PATTERSON ASSEMBLED

You are like the Uncle Rico of clutchfans. :p. Just substitute "199x" for "1982". Rockets, movies, music, etc.

You know who else was a GM in the 90s??? The Spurs RC Bufford.

RC Buford's analytics show's a graph of nba championships

I figure an old timer like yourself would be able to put together a post that's not riddled with immature passive-aggressiveness like this one. Makes me regret engaging is such a pointless thread to begin with.

I'll just say this and will promptly get off your lawn. Patterson will NEVER be hired back here, glory days or not. Because he burns bridges. Because he's not a good person. Which is why we was fired. By our current owner.

It's not being old, it's you being not informed about Patterson's resume.

I never said Steve Paterson was Chris Martin from Coldplay.

He's Steve Paterson, the GM who built a championship team for the Rockets.

Morey hasn't built a championship team, it's time to bring in someone who will.

Speaking if the 90's, I ate dinner in a restaurant next to Noel Gallagher and his wife the other week in London.

This is the guy that almost drove Hakeem out of Houston and Hakeem called him stupid and wanted to sue him, right?

You should have punched him in the face for ruining verve and the boo radleys and getting both slowdive and swervedriver sacked from creation records....

Patterson was the GM that set up the team that won the rings. Undeniable.

    Let's take a closer look.

    1. He inherited Olajuwon when he took over as gm after his dad left.
    2. He WANTED to trade Olajuwon. The clips and the heat were stupid. He got lucky they were stupid. Clutch city never happens if Patterson accomplished his goal of trading Hakeem. However, due to the heat and the clippers being stupid (which he had no control of), he failed in his goal of trading Olajuwon which led to the championships.
    3. You can give him credit for Maxwell, Cassell, Horry, And that's fine. But remember, him failing (at trading Hakeem) led to the rockets greatest success. Always remember, if it was up to him, Hakeem was out. If Hakeem was out, clutch city never happens. And all the other pieces he got become irrelevant.

The NBA game has passes him by. He also just got done alienating everyone at UT. You really want him now? Why don't we just bring back Rudy T as well.

Cooler heads did prevail and Dream accepted an extension from the Rockets.

You are arguing something that never happened.

'Almost traded ' = Never traded.

Rudy T works for the Lakers.

    If 'Hakeem was out'....

Stop with the Tracy McGrady like logic.

    You make me laugh
    Give me your autograph
Can I ride with you in your BMW?
    You can sail with me
    In my yellow submarine

    You need to find out
No one's gonna tell you what I'm all about
You need to find a way for what you want to say
    But before tomorrow

'Cause my friend said he'd take you home
He sits in a corner all alone
    He lives under a waterfall
    Nobody can see him
Nobody can ever hear him call
Nobody can ever hear him call

Bobby Brown alienated New Edition, but you can't deny that he was a major part of it.

You can't just deny greatness cause someone doesn't rub you the right way.

    not everybody is johnny gill

Cooler heads did prevail. Not from anything Patterson did. His deals were rejected. He had no choice. Whatever. He's not coming back anyways. 0.0 percent chance Patterson will be a Rockets gm again.

Wasnt Steve Patterson the GM who passed on a deal that would've sent Drexler and the 2nd overall pick (likely MJ) for Ralph Sampson?

LMAO Patterson wasnt the architect of the back2back, it was Hakeem he basically willed those teams to championships, wasnt Rudy Ts game plan during those years give it to Hakeem in the post and get out of the way? That's a far cry from MJ having an superstar sidekick and depth on his team. Hakeem is toe to toe or even superior to MJ in terms of impact, yet he only has two rings to show for it despite a decade of dominance. Tinman is arguing Patterson made that championship team happen, but imho he just squandered Hakeems career by getting crack heads and refusing to trade sampson for drexler and that 2nd pick.

No. Steve Patterson inherited hakeem and otis thorpe.

Try using google before you make up random stuff.

Obviously you know as much about rockets history as chicken on a chicken farm.

    No thanks to Patterson.

He's pretty overrated in general. Never really found anything too fascinating about him. I would rather just stick with Morey for now.
