I didn't consider Melton as a project, even in the short term. After watching him, I think his game already translates to the NBA on both ends of the floor. His game is already NBA ready sort of speak. The others are all long shots.
i admit that Bruno is new to me. I have read that he is a 3 and can't play the 4 or 5 due to his lack of physicality. But his wingspan has me wondering if can bulk up some and become a stretch 4 or a small ball 5. His speed wouldn't be as much of a liability. Is this even possible for this kid?
I don't think he is very athletic. He is slower than Capela. Bulking up, may help with contact though. If you look at his 905 D-League videos, it shows that he can shoot and block shots, but the rest of his game is pretty rudimentary. I honestly don't know if he can get quicker. I think stretch 4, plus shot blocking should be his game. 5's would be too strong for him.
I'm not sure Qi has the endurance to give you 10-15 minutes over an 82 game year + the playoffs. So yes, having an NBA body that can take the grind day in and day out is relevant. He's made steady progress, but I have my doubts that he could give you this with consistency yet.
Bruno does have upside apart from just 3's, but he has not been able to translate it into the NBA. That's where the frustration lies. He is not a SF though. 4 is his position.
While I’m not expecting much from MCW, he does have a skill set that could play a role here if realized. I liken his abilities to Shaun Livingston and believe he could play a similar role. If anyone can get something out of him I believe it’s this coaching staff and the leaders the Rockets have on the floor.
This is overblown imo. He certainly can give 10-15 minutes given he can give double that in the G League. He would have to have some kind of rare condition to go through a season of G League sandwiched between two extremely hard working summers and not be able to give 10-15 minutes. No reason to think he is outrageously deficient in that sense.
Covington did not pan out in Houston. I felt he needed more time with the Rockets. Ish looked quite good, but he really got better after leaving Houston. I wish he was a backup to Chris Paul.
both were morey projects but just didn't have time to develop here.... but probably would have had they stayed
I'll be following Melton and Zhou Qi most closely. Zhou will probably never get there... but he seems way closer than I ever thought he would be... as a DEFENSIVE specialist. He seems to have solid defensive instincts and his size and length just can make shots difficult. But he has to keep those instincts as he doesn't have the speed otherwise - he can't be going for fakes, getting his feet jumbled up, etc. Just stay sound, then be tall and long. Hartestein (sp?) is much more likely to get some minutes to see what he might be, and I'll still give him a sliver of hope because he's just so so so young. He won't be 21 till close to the end of next year. He's just a month older than Ayton for example. Just needs more speed.
Definitely, MCW is more of a 3rd string bench guy. I'm thinking he should be replaced on your list with DeAnthony Melton. He's more of a project (with promise) than MCW is.
