Well, considering the fact that they MOVED cities and CHANGED team names, I really don't condiser the Titans the same team as the Oilers.

The Oilers are gone.

Are you r****ded? The Titans CHOSE to give up their identity as the Oilers. They gave up on their old fans.

Explain to me why Cleveland Brown fans shouldn't be fans of the Ravens.

It was technically an expansion team but they had the same owner, players and coaches.

I'm a Cowboys fan. I'm completely in touch with having ******* owners. However, I don't follow a team because of their ownership. That just seems to be the wrong reason for..well, nevermind. I don't watch pro sports for the soap opera

 

I guess it all comes down to one fact...

Do you like the team or their uniforms? Get my drift? Houston Oilers fans were the all-time leaders in two things...

1) Victim mentality

2) Bandwagoners

If you move out of your mom's house (which I'm hoping most of you reading/writing here have) is she still family to you? Or do you change your blood there too?

Rockets are first for me but are slowly losing ground to the Texans who recently just passed the Astros. I think the Texans are becoming my favorite only because I haven't had that high of expectations for them and they were entertaining to watch this last season. Maybe I just have too high of expectations for the Rockets.

 

Astros just barely edge the Rockets...Texans are climbing but I still don't feel quite attached yet.

 

So, let's say your daughter gets married. She moves away, takes her husband's name. Makes a new home for herself, starts a family, etc. Do you still love her and support her? Or do you abandon her as part of you and focus on your son until he moves away?

Children aren't abandoning you when they move on in their lives. That is a natural progression.

And family is a bit more important than a sports franchise.

Well if you are, then a more apt comparison is if you come home one day to find that your wife has cleaned the place out, taken the kids and left. Shortly after you find out she cheated on you. So....do you still love her and support her?

I just can't relate. It would take an awful lot for an entity I don't personally have anything invested in to create a feeling of "abandonment" in me. Sorry, I just don't see it like that.

I just don't understand how people are so personally attached to a team to feel "abandoned" when they leave, but not attached enough to continue supporting them when they go. That's a huge contradiction in my book.

 

comparing your home town sports team and your daughter is totally sweet.

i raise my kids to be adults and go on to have great, productive lives...i don't root for my teams here in town so that they can be successful somewhere else.

I didn't root for the Oilers because they were the Oilers...I rooted for them because they were from Houston. But for that, I would have never rooted for them to begin with...i would have rooted for the other team that played here.

Honest to God, I can't believe we're having this conversation.

Let me break it down for you...

I wouldn't feel abandoned. I'd still support the TEAM regardless of playing here, there, in Canada, or on Mars. Similar to family. Unconditional love? Unconditional support?

I suppose it all comes down to how serious a sports fan you are. "My franchises" are always "mine".
