Quoted because this is the correct way the tie breakers work. Our SOS is pretty high (which it is every year, especially considering the division we play in), therefore, we will probably picking last or second to last of all the teams that have the same record as us.
The update: http://houston.sbnation.com/houston...-panthers-locked-in-to-1-texans-could-pick-as Those win percentages are through Week 15. I haven’t found ESPN’s SOS numbers to be particularly reliable in this matter. But I’ve included them in parentheses so we can see how they hold up to reality once someone who is actually double checking these comes through. It doesn’t seem to make much of a difference either way, as most teams are just about where they’re supposed to be. Basically, there are a few things in favor of the Texans getting a (Nick) Fairl(e)y high pick here: -Arizona and San Francisco play each other, which means one of them has to win and leapfrog the Texans should they lose. -The Bills will be playing the Jets, who have nothing to play for, and rumors have already started to spread that the Jets will rest Mark Sanchez in that game. -Denver draws an opponent, San Diego, that also has nothing to play for. -While Cincinnati and Cleveland get the Ravens and Steelers, who do have the division to play for, they both have their spots locked in. -Should the Eagles lose to the Vikings on Tuesday, they will also have nothing to play for against the Cowboys next week. The Texans, of course, host a Jaguars team that is fighting for their playoff lives and who need to win to have a chance. So there is still a little bit of drama left in the Texans season: just instead of them competing for the playoffs, it’s the other team.
So, in a perfect world, we can move up to #4? We can't pass Carolina, Denver, and the loser of the Arizona/San Fran game, correct?
We can't worry about what other teams are doing, we just have to take care of our own business (by losing) and let the pieces fall where they may.
I just get the sinking feeling that this organization is going to get it into their heads that if they win this game, the fans are going to leave Reliant with a warm feeling in their hearts. For the love of all that is holy, LOSE THIS GAME. Don't even let the idea of winning enter your little pea-sized brains. If Bob McNair has to go into the locker room with fire brimstone, and tell these duncecap players and coaches to LOSE, then so be it. But, in the name of Bronko Nagursky, LOSE THIS GAME!
+1 So glad the Jags have something to play for. If a pointless win here drops us 7-10 spots in the draft then this season is a complete failure. Will AJ play next week? Jut shut him down for gods sake. Shut down Foster too. Any fan with an ounce of sense knows that winning this game is a huge mistake.
At least partially for myself: CAR - locked as top pick Broncos (hosting SD) - possible win to go to 5 wins Bills (@Jets) - probable loss to stay at 4 wins Bengals (@BAL) - probable loss to stay at 4 wins Cowboys (@Phi) - might win only if Philly is locked in and resting stars. Browns (hosting Steelers) - probable loss as Pit is jockeying for homefield Vikings - probable loss Tues Lions / Vikings Sun, one must go to six wins, one stays at 5 Cards/49ers - one must go to six wins, one stays at 5 Texans - we're all wanting them to seal 5 wins by laying down to the Jags at home, but lord knows they LOVE screwing us over. Seahawks (hosting Rams) - expected loss to stay at 6 wins Titans (@ Indy) - have completely quit, almost certain to stay at 6 wins Redskins (hosting Giants) - probable loss to stay at 6 wins SO...... If Houston royally screws us over with a win and 6 wins, most likely we'll see: 7 or 8 teams with 5 wins or less 5 or 6 way tie at 6 wins pick #8 best case, #13 worst case If Houston mails it in and gives Jacksonville the win, 3-4 teams probable to be 4 wins or less Likely tied with 3-5 other 5-win teams #4 best case, #8 worst case I'm not banking on the SoS numbers until they're concrete
oh snap. didn't realize that the bills, bengals & browns have a higher SoS than us. this gives us more outs. we better freakin lose this game. period. 5-11. 2-4 in the division again. kubiak is canned.
in the long run, this season might be a huge blessing in disguise. there's no way that the Texans have any business drafting in the top 10 in every round. get a new coaching staff. draft on D and add another play maker on offense. we'll be closer to where we want to be as opposed to barely missing out on the playoffs or being one and done in the playoffs.
Correct me if wrong, but SoS tiebreakers as they stand right now *should be* Texans "win" (better draft pick) Buffalo Cincy Detroit Cleveland Too close to call Minnesota Texans "lose" Denver Arizona San Fran Dallas Seattle Tennessee Washington ....the outcome Sunday will likely have a huge swing on draft position. If we finish with 6 wins, it's probably a back of the room scenario (pick #12 or #13).
How depressing is it to where you actually have to cheer for your favorite team to lose? Cmon Mr. McNair its time to put an end to the Kubiak era.
Screw all the talk about losing for better drafting position. I want to go into the game expecting a win especially against a team that I hate, if we lose then fine. Then we can talk about having a better draft position.
