The Broncos won the SB without a QB...and that defense will be gunning after Brock. Also, game is in Denver. Until Brock shows otherwise, the Texans also dont have a QB. If he plays like he did last season, he'd be one of the lowest ranked QBs in the league.
Unfortunately past history makes their point. On Brock, Fuller, and Braxton; they are right to question their past. It has to be proven on the field. People weren't sure if Harden was going to work out because he hadn't carried a team. They were right to question it, until he proved them wrong. They wrote the Texans off after the 2-5 start and were right to. The team was playing pathetic. But then they proved them wrong. Brock, Fuller, Lamar, and the rest of the team needs to go prove everybody wrong.
Is that true? His last year's numbers over a 16 game season would be 4496 yards, 23, TD's 14 interceptions, QB rating of 86.4.....that's not too bad. That would be 6th most in overall passing yards, 16th in TD's, 7th in interceptions. I mean, no one confuses that for superstar numbers but you could do a lot worse.
OK well if that's true why are they hyping up Jacksonville when their history is more messed up than the Texans? Why are they so convinced that they will be the top dog in this division? Since we're going going off history.
1. Jacksonville is ranked lower than the Texans. Not sure where you're getting the idea that they think the Jaguars are the top dog in the division. 2. The players they acquired don't have pretty good history - Ramsey, Malik, Gipson, etc.
This. So much. I hate the media towards us. Yes they are ranked lower, but they are definitely talked about in a more positive light. "we are over paying Brock, fuller has no hands,etc.. where as they are the winners of the draft" and i have also heard stuff about "top dog in the division" To be honest, i am happy... every other houston team this year has been projected awesome and failed/is failing. I hope the Texans can do the opposite.

The Jaguars might be the most improved. A lot of media outlets are saying this and that is probably where the "positive light" is coming from. They might have won the draft but no one thinks they will be better than the Texans. I haven't seen or heard anyone predicting they they will win the division. It is mostly the Texans or the Colts. I have seen predictions that the Jags will CHALLENGE, not win. The knock on Fuller is accurate but even with that he was always mocked as a first rounder. Those questions will remain until he proves them wrong.
He likes the slot and he's probably better off there. Despite his speed in the 40 he has never played to that speed.
What's strange is in their post-free agency rankings, The Texans were 12th. So, by that logic, 5 teams jumped us based on their draft alone. DOES NOT COMPUTE.
Why is Brock a more or less of a risk then selecting a QB in the draft? And money isn't a good reason because any decent QB will be one of the highest paid on the team eventually.
People can't wrap their minds around the money, never mind we're just six years removed from the Rams handing Sam Bradford a guaranteed $50MM as an untested rookie. Honestly, the biggest risk, frankly, is that Osweiler is as good as we all hope and we've only locked him up for four years. If you have the space, spending $37MM over two years on a high-ceiling QB is not terribly risky in today's NFL.
Forget that the Jets, Bills, Browns, and every other team that could have used a QB passed on him.....now that Elway has chosen him, clearly he's been anointed The Savior.
the new savior who only got drafted because the previous savior rejected their contract offer to go join another team and became a huge risk
The Texans drafted based on what they felt their need was. Speed on offense. Maybe ESPN doesn't agree that was a great need. They didn't draft a defensive lineman until the last pick in the draft and it was a nose tackle not an end. They also didn't draft a TE at all. I don't see why people are so surprised by this. The Texans have to prove them wrong. I'm hoping they will.
86 QBrating is a lot better than Ryan Mallet, who is under 70 for his career, but it's really not that good for a well paid QB and long term solution. Fitz can do 86. Hoping for 90+ at minimum
The cap matters. Teams that manage their cap well are the ones that win. You can't have a lot of overpaid guys an expect to win. Brock has to live up to the contract or it will be difficult
He would be 25th in QB rating and roughly the same in QBR. His YPA would be 23rd, one spot ahead of Hoyer. Judging a QB on YPA and QBR is a much better indicator of where they stack up compared to a stat like "Yards". And he should be at 93+ QB rating next season...and go up from there. Otherwise, we overpaid.
