I know this has been said before, and possibly beaten like a dead horse, but this is real people. Houston Astros Predicted 2016 World Series Champs - 2016 Houston Lastros Houston Rockets Predicted as Potential 2015-2016 NBA Champion - Lottery Team Texans - ? I mean and this is only recently. Outside of the two championships in 94 & 95, we have done absolutely NOTHING but let downs. Stockton, Lidge, Matt Schaub, Jacoby Jones, Harden 14 turnovers in a game, Game 7 blowout in 2005 to Dallas, the list goes ON AND ON AND ON. I bleed this city when it comes to sports, but WHAT THE HELL IS THE DAMN DEAL!! Fourth largest city in the US, and on the verge of being the 3rd biggest.
Since 1995... - 97 Rockets make WCF - 97 Cougar football wins CUSA - 97-01 Astros win their division 4 times in 5 years - 01 Titans lose Superbowl in dramatic fashion - 04 Astros have dramatic postseason run - 05 Astros have even more dramatic postseason run ending in the World Series - Houston defies the odds and gets an NFL team back - 02 Texans shock the Cowboys - 06 Cougar football wins CUSA - 06-07 Dynamo back-to-back MLS Champs - 08 Rockets 22 wins in a row & deep playoff run - 09 Cougar basketball wins CUSA - 11 Cougar football wins CUSA finished ranked in top 15 - 14 Rockets win division & advance to WCF - 15 Cougar football wins the American finished ranked in top 10 - 15 Astros have a fantastic season & nice postseason run
Houston has only two real sports team with championship pedigree and banners up there. Rockets are at the very very top and well Dynamos come second. The other two teams esp the fake tough guy sport Texans led by the over-rated unathletic loser JJ Fatt are an embarrassment to the City of Houston and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Every sports city thinks they are cursed. If we are cursed, it's a curse of mediocrity. Very rarely do our teams just flat out SUCK, despite what you read on.....well, Clutchfans. Rockets have had just 3 losing seasons in the last 32 years. Astros have made the playoffs 7 times in the last 19 years. Texans are young, but have only had 2 losing seasons in the last 9 years and have made the playoffs 3 of the last 5 years. It could be a lot worse.
I don't understand where you think a curse comes from? Is it God? Do you believe in other magics? Is MMP built over the swamps that housed past voodoo priestess?
Correction the Rockets made the playoffs and gave their pick away. Because it was best for the team to lose to a Curry-less Warriors team. uggghhhhh
Cool.. wait, how many major pro sports championships were in that list? (And don't say soccer..) Oh that's right, none. We were close with the Astros, but Uncle Drayton let that idiot in Milwaukee dictate when we could and couldn't close the roof, thus losing what had been a home-field advantage.. Other than that, this city's pro teams have been nothing but a slow grind to claw slightly above mediocre, and as soon as Houston teams start to garner some national attention and praise, the whole thing crashes and burns. While I don't believe in a 'curse' as such, I do dread every time any of our teams start to read good press on themselves, because that has always signaled doom. Texans becoming hot stuff, even predicted by many to be SB contenders? Nahh, they were already on decline by the end of that season, and got slaughtered. And then they fell off a cliff. Astros had 'success' during Uncle Drayton's years? Weirdly people kept praising Drayton because of this, when in reality, any success the Astros had was in SPITE of Unca Drayton, not because of him. He left the team in the worst possible position - no talent, no farm system, and not even any hope of fielding a competitive major league teams for half a decade. Thanks Drayton! So in the Astros case, was Drayton the 'curse'? Apparently not, because look at the Astros this year. Drayton is long gone, the farm system was re-stocked, they followed the plan, they have talent out the wazoo.. they came THIS close to getting to the WS last year.. things only looked like they were going to get better.. Annnnd.. boom goes the dynamite. Can't really blame them for getting Giles - they saw the same holes in the bullpen that everyone else did at the end of the year last year. And who could have predicted that Giles would turn into The Guy Who Forgot How to Pitch? But they can't keep throwing him out there until he gets himself straight. he should go to the minors where he can't hurt anyone. And they can't continue playing without a major league catcher, and Gogo just has to gogo away. That idiot cost us the game the other night with a stupid decision trying to stretch a leadoff double into a triple. WHY?? There was zero reason to do that. Anyway, there sure seems to be a cure on the Astros. Now the Texans.. we'll have to see what happens. Maybe BoB will finally be the one to break the curse.. the draft this year LOOKS nice, but it will all hinge on whether Brock is the real deal or not. If he's not, then no more screwing around, and draft a QB in the 1st! Anyway. yeah, I feel ya OP.. this city has definitely earned its pro sports low-self-esteem complex.
If curses are caused by bad apostrophe placement in thread titles, then I think we found our culprit.
