They can absolutely get better. They need to have CP3 dominate the ball more with Harden on the floor with him. They also need both players to get better with moving without the ball.

Other than that, I am of firm belief a GSW/Hou matchup would be absolutely insane.

Yes I agree. Yeah when ever they are both on the court one of them gets relegated to a catch and shoot player. And it still feels awkward. Apparently we are kicking ass the time only one of them is on the court. Lucky for us that is around half the game.

When they get it figured out it is going to truly be an unstoppable team.

    https://stats.nba.com/teams/opponent-shooting/?Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Regular Season&DistanceRange=By Zone&sort=Restricted Area FG PCT&dir=-1&DateFrom=11/16/2017&DateTo=12/07/2017

Houston Rockets 17/18 season (NBA team defensive leaders)

    Restricted Area: 63.2% (16th)....Warriors at 61.4%
    In the Paint: 38.9%.......(14th)
    Mid-Range: 35.1%........(2nd)
    Lt Corner 3: 30.9%.......(2nd)
    Rt Corner 3: 47.9%.......(28th)
    Above the Break: 34.6..(10th)

    Houston Rockets 17/18 season (11/16/17 thru 12/07/17: 8 games of CP3 return)

    Restricted Area: 62.3% (10th)...Warriors at 60.1% during time span..Nene missed 2 of 8 games/ CP3 came back
In the Paint: 41.4% ........(23rd) Nene missed 2 of 8 games of CP3 return
    Mid-Range: 29.0%............(
    1st)
    Lt Corner 3: 38.5%............(11th)
    Rt Corner 3: 38.5%............(
    16th)
    Above the Break 3: 26.1%..(
    1st)

On a different note: kinda funny how people were saying wait until Houston faces a decent defense.
Lakers were 8th (DRtg) and still are (8th)
Utah has dropped to 6th (DRtg) after Houston loss

Houston is now 4th in DRtg

Rockets still dominating (even against those good defenses)

Per @DonKnock thread, BBRef says the Rockets have the best ORtg in league history right now, ahead of GSW.

Why can't NBA and Basketball-reference agree on their stat formulas for Pace, ORtg and DRtg. The lack of having consistent rankings of those key measures is a little annoying.

    Check out the differences.

Does NFL or MLB have two major stats sources disagreeing like this on how to calculate a key stat? So weird.

The Hornets put up such little resistance that they tanked our All time offensive ORtg:(

Too much garbage time. Went back down to 115.4 (116.5 non-garbage time)

A nice way of showing how crazy the Rockets improved this year compared to last year.

Why are both of them still using this kind of formula to estimate possessions? I mean with all the tracking and play by play data available nowadays, they can easily count the real possessions in a game with some simply text analysis programs. I know for the purpose of comparison with historical data, it is necessary to use the same estimation formula, but it will also be nice to have the real offensive and defensive ratings.

Seriously, this does not look good for Rockets to take the all time offensive ratings:(. There are just too much garbage time in too many games!

What Harden and Paul are both doing, advanced stats-wise, is insane.

Harden BPM: 11.1 (#2 behind LeBron)
    Paul BPM: 9.0 (#3)
    -
    Harden WS/48: 0.324 (#2)
    Paul WS/48: 0.335 (#1)
    -
    Harden RPM: 8.5 (#1)
    Paul RPM: 3.7 (#20)
    -
    Harden PER: 30.9 (#3)
    Paul PER: 27.6 (#6)
    -
    Harden TS%: 62.6%
    Paul TS%: 62.3%
    -
    Harden AST%: 47.0 (#3)
    Paul AST%: 48.7 (#2)
