After 48 years on channel 13 Eyewitness news, Dave Ward is cutting back his work times. At the end of the year he will only work the six o'clock news, not the ten o'clock. My earliest memory of watching the news was with Dave Ward and Marvin Zindler. Going to be strange to watch the ten o'clock news without him. Story and video at link below.

Yeah, I am going to miss him dearly. I have been watching him since I was born. 48 years is amazing. He's the only person in the world that have done that.

    Going to miss him, man.

Well it could have been one of two things; this is obviously the better story. That having been said he probably should have done this a while ago, unless Q-ratings or local Nielsens justified his staying. Was he in Hellfighters, by any chance? I know that's one of two movies that references Baytown and I'm pretty sure there was an ABC13 truck or van in that scene.

I don't believe he was in Hellfighters. Chris Chandler, a former weatherman at KPRC, was knocked out by John Wayne in the movie.

    Talk about a Houston institution.

The primary anchor, for the primary news show in Houston for 50 years.

Grew up with that guy on the news, and to me his *is* Houston news.

He used to drink pretty regularly at Kay's Lounge on Bissonnet back when his buddy Eldon owned the place, a bunch of the ABC13 guys did, he'd come in around Xmas and write a personal check for his 12-month tab.

Anyone old enough to remember "Dialing for Dollars"? That's my earliest memory of Dave Ward.

I don't get it! Dave Ward hasn't passed away, and he didn't announce his retirement, so why are you speaking of him as if he no longer will be doing the news?

BTW, he is a Houston Institution! The Cal Ripken of News Broadcasters!

 Why is everyone talking like he passed away or like he's no longer on TV? He's still on the six o'clock news. Y'all will get to see him "two or three more years", like he said on some Facebook post.

This seems more like ABC13 trying to push him out for young blood and he's not budging. You can tell he loves his job and he's still a great anchor.

He's a good Houston guy. I hope he stays a lot longer than that.

That's too good. It reminded me of the Network for some reason:

    On his Wikipedia:

    Ward claims:[2]
“ I've been doing the same news show on the same station longer than anyone in the history of American television. ”

Amazing feat if true. Brett Favre/Cal Ripken of News Anchors.

When I was a youth I once saw Dave Ward at Malibu Grand Prix on 59 Hwy. He was sitting by himself at a table staring blankly at the wall. He was waiting for his children I assume. That blank stare of utter boredom will never leave my memory.
