No amount of coaching will make him suddenly develop reliable post moves, soft touch around the basket, or a 16 foot jumper. Not even Carlisle. I think we all knew that as soon as his athleticism started to leave him, he'd be done. Here we are.
Dallas is full of players who were good in 2005 - adding another year and a Center who cannot post up (but demands post plays) is not going to help
By the way, Dwight Howard wants a max contract worth 100+ million. I don't think the Mavericks have that type of money to pay him that. And I don't think they will pay him that miney if they do have that type of money. Dwight Howard is not worth 100+ million. The only teams who are willing to pay him that money are the Hornets and Celtics. That is where he is going.
I actually live in Dallas and listen to sports radio to and from work often. A couple months ago they were talking about Dwight and mentioned that in regards to free agents Cuban still gives Dirk heavy consideration in picking players and Dirk has 0 interest in playing with Dwight because he doesn't like him. I'm some what paraphrasing and forget who mentioned that (Maybe Stein or Tim MacMahon) but just an FYI. Also completely unrelated Donnie Nelson was also on and interviewing and was talking about all his players as assets which I thought was funny based on the reaction to that from a lot of people on the board. Definitely don't think Morey is the only guy using language like that.
With Parsons there was still some room for potential and improvement With Howard what you see is what you get I hate Dallas and the Mavericks as much as the next Rockets fan but they're not stupid enough to throw big numbers at Howard at this point in his career.
Even worse than that, he's a troll. His name is ClutchDirk at the Mavs Scout.com site. He's always bragging about how he trolls Rockets fans.
It would be hilarious if the team that let Steve Nash walk because he was too old, only two see him immediately win two MVPs, handed out a max contract to Howard at this point in his career.
Gifting them a better team, maybe. A contender? Not with this particular vintage of Dwight and this particular vintage of Dirk. No way. 4 seed type team at best, even with Carlisle + Parsons + generic but unspectacular point guard upgrade.
Being a Rockets fan laughing at the Mavs was fun last season after seeing how their offseason unfolded and how the Rockets were prepared for the 2015-2016 season. Laughing at the Mavs now is like you are wearing a fake Rolex that you spent $20 buying from some stores at Harwin and then trying to show off to your co-workers in Mcdonalds.
What? The Rockets aren't the best team poised for summer but they aren't exactly garbage LMAO. How exactly does James Harden+massive capspace equate to a fake rolex? Rox are like 3x better position than Mavs now, majority of the board+Rox Mgt don't even want Dwight to resign here and he's the Mavs' best hope? Their team is old and decrepit and their two max guys are Chandler "Always Injured" Parsons and Wesley freakin' Matthews, now they look to add Dwight who will sign for 20+M a year. How's that a recipe for success they'll have 3 max guys who are obviously not worth it?
Parsons has been a shell of himself since he left. Do you think anyone in the front office really regrets letting him go?
No young elite player is going to sign and play for Dallas just to be a part of Dirk's farewell tour in a couple of years. Cuban will be in the exact situation Les is in now once the franchise player he inherited retires/leaves.
Exactly. And if Cuban wants to assign blame all he has to do is to look in the mirror because it was his arrogance and stupidity that brought about this turn of events for the Mavs. He should have stuck to taping episodes of Shark Tank.
I really hope Dallas signs Howard. Can't wait to see him clunck FT after FT during crunch time. Like someone said, he is what he is at this stage in his career. He has yet to learn how to shoot FT's and never developed an outside shot. Plus, he can't get through an entire season w/o injuring himself now that his body is beginning to break down. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back with the Rockets once he realizes he isn't getting a big contract with another team.
In hindsight, the Parsons deal was a blessing. He has been injured consistently and not the player Dallas was expecting.
