Rumor that he is bringing Major Applewhite in too. Which is awesome for recruiting....his play calling was lackluster at UT though

Agreed that his play calling was suspect at UT. But, Mack Brown meddled with everything at Texas. It will be interesting to see Applewhite here without Brown looking over his shoulder or holding his hand. Plus we dont even know what his role will be yet. I assume Herman will call plays. He was a graduate Assistant at UT when Appelwhite played in 1999. Applewhite and Herman both coached Mehringer at Rice, whom was injured under Herman's tenure. Herman obviously likes their offensive minds. The biggest positive with Applewhite is recruiting. And no he is not some star recruiter but he did a lot of the leg work for UT while he was there.
Us hiring Herman is 10 times better than SMU hiring Chad Morris. Herman is a way better offensive mind and recruiter than Morris. I cant wait to see us own SMU in recruiting and on the field the next couple years.

This is who I wanted and retaining Gibbs is icing on the cake. I think Major will be more in the line of what they did at Rice than the type of system they ran at Texas.
In Houston sports you don't get too much good news. Savor this. Relish every part of it. When something is rare it should be cherished.
I hope they keep Bush on staff somehow. He's a nice guy (which, I know, is not indicative of coaching ability) and deserves a chance with the new staff.
Bush had his run and he does not deserve anything. If he was a capable OC there would not have been a change at the top. From what I have read he will not be retained
as long as UT and Baylor are in the Big 12 there's no way in hell UH will be asked to join the conference.
