I thought this was already known? I have heard some talk of taking 10 years of half payouts and then full payments.

There will certainly be some half or less payments regardless of who is added. TCU and WV took half payments for 5 years. Extending that period is not good for the conference. Also some of the names being discussed by the Big XII are not that exciting at all.
Ya restricted shares is nothing new, but I believe the idea of auctioning it off is. The current Big 12 deal only goes through 2025 so essentially you're talking about getting half until a new deal is signed.
That seems right. I suspect there was a form of auctioning off done before in the sense it was told to TCU and WVU to take it or leave it. I think the Big XII takes 2-4 schools in areas that they can expand their appeal, Cincy and Memphis make some sense in that regard.
No.... not happy times until a definitive answer is given and the nature of the arrangement concerning pay outs is disclosed.
The problem for the Big 12...If UH makes it to the playoff this year. They will have a powerhouse that could keep building in a weak conference that will still recruits anyway. A school that will take away viewers from the Big 12. Tom Herman could stay....get $5million a year......and have a clear chance at a playoff by playing 1 or 2 power conference games a year. That would be a nightmare scenario...because another conference would almost assuredly coming and offer UH a spot. Don't believe Herman is going to leave if he makes it to a playoff. Why leave? You could build your own legacy by taking a school and fanbase Hungry for success. Why by just another coach at Texas or A&M, when you can become a legend at UH without the bull**** that comes with A&M and UT.
I was extremely skeptical until today. I know these politicos. When they begin speaking publicly on social media it's because they have been assured by their staff that it's likely to happen.

Dan PatrickVerified account @DanPatrick I join with @GregAbbott_TX - any BIG 12 expansion must include @UHouston or NO DEAL!
Greg Fenves @gregfenves As we look at opportunities for Big 12 expansion, I support considering @UHouston for the conference. UH is a huge asset for Texas.
Damn this is moving really fast. I found an interesting discussion on reddit about the AAC $10m exit fee and 27 month notice. https://m.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/4ttfg7/the_aac_has_a_27month_notice_and_10m_exit_process/ I'm not that deep into P5 conference jumbling history and menusha, so I'm learning quickly. Looks like there are a few teams that set a precedent on negotiating out of the wait period for a bigger exit fee. So if this goes down, how realistic is it for the process to be expedited and with what realistic timeline? I heard Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby say 2017 not realistic, but is it not? Seems like this is moving faster and gaining momentum day by day.
The 30 for 30 doc on UH is going to be so fascinating. Tilman, CTH, and, especially, Dr. Khator have played this masterfully. I'm shocked, really. It's incredible how well they played every move.
There has been plenty of time spent behind the scenes talking about expansion, money, schools, and time frame. It is get close to the time to act so mouths are opening up in the public finally.
I live in 3rd Ward as well near TSU entrance. Over the past year 5 empty houses on my street alone have either been remodeled or torn down completely and replaced with town homes. Two more currently under construction.

This is unexpected.
If the report of big 12 favoring uh is true, when will they announce uh joining big 12? In the immediate future or after this season? I know big 12 could add uh as soon as 2017 season but any idea when they will announce?
