In 1959, 64 years ago on this date, Buddy Holly died. He was 22 years old. He was in an airplane crash that also took the lives of Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Holly was a genius who laid the foundation of Rock and Roll in immeasurable ways. His influence is vast and his songs are still covered with regularity. Movies and Broadway plays honor him, songs are written about him. I often wonder what he would have done with music throughout the 1960s and 1970s. I'd like to believe he'd be the one non-Folk pre-Beatles talent that managed to adapt and influence throughout that period. There are only a handful of videos that show Holly playing.
