** REMOVED PICS ** There seems to be a whole lot of violent crimes against tourists in Thailand lately. http://www.cdnn.info/news/travel/t070301.html
I think they were Russian escorts trying to steal business from the ladies of Pattaya. Thus the pimp killed them.
Pretty scary stuff.. I would think that they would get raped or something. Must've rubbed off some locals the wrong way
There's probally more to it. They probally pissed off some locals. Whatever they did, it doesn't justify what happened in the end.
i thought this was going to be something along these lines...especially given all the love/hate the 80s have gotten around here lately: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ds_TRSoQkJ0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ds_TRSoQkJ0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Pattaya is a wild-west dump, with an economy that subsists on prostitution and other forms of corruption. Stay away in any season.
Pure speculation on my part but I doubt just two women even if they were prostitutes would piss off local prostitutes enough to kill them. When I was in Harbin there were a lot of Russian tourists and most of the guys looked like they were from The Sopranos central casting while the women looked like these two. Again pure speculation but I had the feeling these weren't just average tourists and weren't people to be messed with. It could be possible these women were caught up with Russian mobsters who were doing business in Thailand or even just vacationing and someone took the opportunity to send a message.
Uh...A spoiler tag would definitely be nice...Definitely NSFW... There's got to be more to the story...
Its not that bad. You just need to know where to go. It is the closest beach to bangkok so you get all sorts. Unfortunately most westerm tourist go there for the red light district and bars but there are area and beaches in pataya that are mostly visited by Thai locals. That being said, I like hua hin much better and its only about 30 minutes longer to drive there.
Apparently the thai police arrested a local and are chalking it up to robbery for now - but then again thai police aren't always on the up and up about this type of thing: http://www.theage.com.au/news/travel/arrest-for-pattaya-murders/2007/03/02/1172338873364.html
Yeah, I noticed that too. Well, I've never been to Thailand and would've believed the surface story. But thanks to Clutch observers, I'd like to know what the interesting story is behind the real reason this went down.
The most respectable, independent thai english language daily will probably update the story every so often if you are interested: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/ and here is a lengthy blog by them on it: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/webblog/view_blog.php?uid=349&bid=2002
I went ahead and removed the pics from the original post, but left the rest of the message intact... that was a bit gruesome.
