I'm sorry, but this is not how diplomacy works.

Absolutely does. He also didn't give anything up. These were not even sanctions enacted as far I I understand. And he complimented their leader. He will now have to make a nice response gesture or his people will consider him dishonorable by Korean standards. Trump is playing a long game, so is Kim. Maybe they can come to an agreement and make a deal. South Korea and North Korea have already been hitting it off thanks to his efforts. Hopefully more peace continues to break out on the Korean Peninsula. At the end of the day, we can only do so much. He has already done more than Obama, Clinton, or Bush.

Wrong. trump stopped joint large scale war exercises in the region (something north korea has wanted for many years) which diminishes military readiness in the area.

Then there were sanctions that he lifted:

You're right. He has given NK way more than previous presidents...with absolutely nothing in return. He's being played over and over and over. It's truly sad how bad he is at negotiating and frightening how much he capitulates to dictators.

I guess you missed the part where Kim now has to "make a nice gesture" and drop some platitudes to feed Trump's ego.

What's hilarious is that you call people who talk about asylum seekers who walk for thousands of miles for a shot against the odds that they might be able to live in this nation as following the rules, naive, while you incorrectly act like Trump hasn't given anything up and he has gotten nothing out of his efforts.

You support believing Kim and giving into Chairman Kim while getting zip in return is way more naive than anything anyone has posted in any of the immigrant/wall threads.

Trump has given up much. He backed off of other sanctions and also prevented other sanctions designed to make existing sanctions effective. The reason Trump's people gave wasn't that it was how diplomacy works. It was that he liked Chairman Kim. He liked a guy who starves his population so he can build his military so much that they are malnourished and don't have the same growth expectancy as their neighbors. He likes the guy who is responsible for the death of American, Otto Warmbier.

You can believe that's how diplomacy works, but if you do, then please don't call others naive.

You are delusional, Kim played Trump like a child. He got Trump to kill the joint exercises and allowed the easing of sanctions from Russia and China. And what did he get in return? nothing.

He's a fool, the worst idiot on the world stage to laugh at, and you defend him!

You're naive for tying this to illegal immigration. If you want to win an argument, maybe don't split hairs on so many things that aren't important. Anyway, I don't support "giving in" to Kim. You may see negotiations that way, but in reality a lot of good can come from these ongoing negotiations. I would love to hear your alternative diplomatic strategy. Now what should Trump do with North Korea? Tell me a better idea. I am really open to your suggestions. What will work better?

Also you believe Trump likes Kim? He said that as part of the diplomatic back and forth, nothing more. Like when a salesman says he will give you a discount because you seem like a nice guy. Maneuver, nothing more.

    1. Good could come negotiations if someone competent was doing the negotiating. Trump has shown, he isn't.

2.Trump said that and it was also given as the reason for not going ahead with sanctions. It wasn't part of the negotiating process.

What would work better is not giving into Kim, keeping pressure on him. Offering the carrot but only giving it once he follows through. At the same time encouraging a path toward a working relationship with S. Korea. Show them specific mutually beneficial trade deals that would work if they start to make changes. That way Kim won't feel like the US wants to wipe them off the face of the earth. Part of the problem is that he feels that way and is interested in making that process so painful that the US won't do it. Showing him that we have a trading interest in N. Korea with the changes, he might see it isn't a matter of wanting to wipe them out completely.
