Not sure if this was posted already, but saw this a few days ago. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...hibberts-all-star-season-are-quite-comparable
For a guy his length and averaging 6.8 RPG, that by it self should get him nominated for one of the most dissapointed players for 2013-2014 season
Kwame Brown 2003-04: "Bust" 10.9 - 7.4 - 1.5 - 48.9% FG Roy Hibbert 2013-14: "All-Star" 11.1 - 6.9 - 1.2 - 45.5% FG Asik averages more rebounds coming off the bench...
hibbert's sorry ass cost me a good fantasy draft pick. rebounding like a sissy girl smfh. asik can get more rebounds in one day, then hibbert can in one week.
Hopefully Asik gets his trade value back up to what it should be, so the Rockets can trade him and make everyone happy.
Hibbert doesn't get a lot of rebounds because he's always protecting the rim. He contests a lot of shots. Sort of the same reason Love grabs a lot of reasons. He doesn't contest shots and just boxes out. This is just particular to these two players though. You can still be a good shot contester and rebounder at the same time.
Granted, Asik doesn't block as many shots, but he plays far fewer minutes. The true mystery is how someone Hibbert's size can't average more than 7 rebounds per game. He should get that many by default just being the biggest guy on the floor by 4 inches for just about every second he is on the floor. Hibbert somehow got an All-star nod, but I would say that most any warm body that plays Center could have gotten that All-star spot if they were surrounded by the incredible defensive players that is Hibbert's daily supporting cast. Asik vs. Hibbert is debatable as far as the better value, but given what numbers Asik puts up as a backup, in a completely anti-defensive number producing scheme like the Rockets play, Asik does appear to have a very, very solid argument as the better overall value. Hibbert has a max contract and is ranked 48th in rebounds per game, as a 7'2" Center. The Pacers SG Stephenson averages more rebounds per game. There is no excuse for something like that, and no reasonable argument can be made defending the lack of rebounding performance Hibbert provides each game, especially given his years of experience and lack of progression in defensive categories. Only 2.6 blocks per game as the tallest person on the floor, who supposedly plays superb help D? Hibbert is massively overrated and his max contract is yet another testament to the glorious lack of good Centers in the NBA today. Asik, as a bench player, puts up far better numbers and has a greater impact for his team than max Hibbert does. Indiana would be far better and have more championship potential with any of a dozen other centers, all of whom do more their teams and put up far better numbers, 90% of which do so at significantly cheaper prices than overpaid, max Hibbert.
Very well said, I agree on almost all of your points. But Hibbert's true value to Indy in the playoffs is what sets him apart from Asik - to dominate the Heat frontcourt and play physical help defense on Lebron.
But the point is that Hibbert only "dominates" like that because the Heat front court is so undersized. You sub Asik for Hibbert and you might see real dominance. I actually believe Howard could turn a series by himself against them. I doubt, but hope we find out this year.
Only 2.6 block/game? 4 guys in the league average over 2 blocks a game. Opponents are shooting 41.7% at the rim against Hibbert (Asik 48.8), and his block rate is 3rd in the league. He also contests more shots per minute than Asik. His offense and rebounding are not good. Of course I never said they were. But he's a better defender than Asik.
I wonder where the "Asik isn't a shot blocker" thing comes from. He blocked a lot more in Chicago -- most likely he doesn't feel comfortable leaving his man to go for blocks in our sieve defense.
Hibbert just doesn't have that strength and bulk. Asik is the stronger player and if he could 2 hand slam it down more often he is the better player.
Howard contests everything and still pulls down 13 Rebs a game... Hibbert just isn't a good rebounder. Hibbert isn't athletic, his want to just doesn't allow him to jump.
