I'm a huge fan of Patton Oswalt, I think he's the best thing going in stand up comedy today. He irregularly posts on his website and a few days ago I found a new post about being asked to give a commencement speech at his high school. Patton writes: He goes on to say how difficult it is to think of the right words, especially after his wife gave him a copy of David Foster Wallace's BRILLIANT commencement speech at Kenyon College (found here ). Patton jokes that handing him that speech while he's scrambling to write his, is like saying: Anyway, Patton then posts his rough draft, which is one of the funnier things I've read in the last few weeks: Link at: http://pattonoswalt.com/
Which part of that is suppose to be funny? Probably when no one is laughing. Not even the highschoolers.
I only know Patton Oswalt from King of Queens, as an incredibly dorky loser, so whenever I hear his standup where he's trying to be purposefully funny with sharp humor or something it just falls really flat for me.
