I'm having some problems with web browsers freezing.I've tried just about every browser made and this is happening with all of them(Chrome, google canary beta,Opera,Firefox,Maxthon,PaleMoon,Explorer) There doesn't seem to be a certain event that triggers this.Sometimes it will go 30min and freeze, sometimes it's before the first page even opens. I have deleted and re installed browsers, virus scans, registry cleaner software, re installed Flash,Shockwave,Adobe Reader. It's not the internet connection. No problem with laptop, iphone,Xbox. Don't know what could cause this and almost ready to reformat but that's gonna be a huge pain.
Thanks for the ? I have 2 GB. I've also tried going in task manager and shutting down any extra/or non essential programs, including any virus protection, firewall ...etc.
Do any other programs for example Word or Outlook run slower too? I had an issue where recovering from recent spinal fusion surgery, I had to stay in bed for a few days. I had my laptop on top of my bed and that caused the exhaust vents to get blocked and overheat my laptop. The first thing I noticed then was slow internet connection.
You may have a virus, try running a full scan. If you have a malware protection software, run a scan on that too. Also try to install a different version flash player. My browser was freezing up just like yours. I also tried installing uninstalling flash, java etc.. The problem was the current version flash kept crashing my browser. I downgraded to one of there archived versions and it has been problem free since. Try flash version 10.3.183.20 worked for my os running win7 ultimate x64
Everything else is fine, only web browsers.Even memory intensive programs like photoshop run smooth. The browser doesn't run slow, just freezes when trying to load a new page.Happens on all different types of pages, even here on this forum ...Has to be something that all these browsers and web pages have in common.I just don't have a lot of technical knowledge of what could be causing it. Maybe it has something to do with Java ? Just realized that's something I didn't think of.
Load your browser without plugins. For Firefox, go to Help and select "Restart without plugins"...for IE it's the Start Button | All Programs | System Tool | IE with no add-ons see if that changes anything. If so, start disabling some of you Add-ons Also, if you want, post your Add-ons in this thread. And we won't laugh if you have p*rn plug-ins (pun intended)
Start the task manager. Open the browser. See if memory keeps growing from your browser until it crashes . If it is, then you have some type of virus.
Speak for yourself. I will laugh heartily at his pr0n tastes. Seriously, though, sounds like heypartner is on the right track, though if it's happening in multiple browsers, my primary suspects would be Flash or Java. Try uninstallIng and reinstalling those. Also (long shot), if you have the .Net framework installed, try removing it and reinstalling.
The only add ons I currently have is adblock because of the fresh browser installs. I think I found the problem.Went to the Java site and it said I had an older version, well went to uninstall it and couldn't find it ... wtf ? So I installed Java and so far no issues.Weird that I would suddenly lose all or part of my Java software. Thanks for all the suggestions
So, it works now. re Java: most people don't need Java for their browsers. Java applets are usually not part of your surfing needs. Likewise, you can generally disable ActiveX and any .NET stuff. Usually applets and activex are for corporate intranets. Maybe you could just disable it completely. The only reason I have Java is for GoToMeeting needs.
in troubleshooting issues like this: you want to simplify. Reboot in Safe Mode with Networking, and run your browsers with no plugins (see my previous post about how to do that). Now, try to reproduce it by ONLY surfing cfnet. If you can't reproduce it, then restart browsers with plugins and try to reproduce it again. If you can't, then extend your surfing to other websites. One step at a time. If you still can't reproduce at all in Safe Mode, then it might be a service running that doesn't run when in Safe Mode. Let us know, as cheeno said, it could be a messed up registry.
If he has a non-dual core or 32-bit windows installed, then 4GB is for him. Twice the ram means he can have much much more uhhh animated tabs on his molasses slow browser. And yes, a difference like that is still big, mostly because in those 2GB he's better off running XP than Vista or 7. If he's running 7, then the remaining memory available ~600-700 mb is now triple to quadrupled to 2600-2700 mb. And if he's an even bigger spender... because you know 30-50 bucks for 8gb he doesn't need is a big thing for something people use all day... a solid state drive for around 60-200 bucks would make things even more unbelievably faster than before. ...Or he can optimize the **** out of his machine, get 3.5% improvements and call it a day.
