Thanks for that. Why is this the case? Why are people effectively being racist/uncultured towards basketball? And what do you mean that the NBA is catered to urban/hip hop culture? If the NFL not catered towards the same crowd? Or is it simply because more demographics play the game? When I went to a Knicks game 4 years ago the arena was awash with middle age white people and I didn't see the game as having a problem

Games are typically for a crowd that can spend $100 or more for one ticket, one concession and parking. That's the audience the Hawks owner wanted, but you could easily go for half that price on an off night in the nosebleeds plus concession.

Games can get real pricey.

 

That's what the teams hope for. But the cost depends on the market and a good number of factor. When the Nets were in their final season in NJ, I got lower bowl tickets for $25 for a Rockets vs. Nets game.

I imagine that similar conditions prevail in a number of NBA markets each season.

ATLANTA -- A former Atlanta Hawks employee is accusing the professional basketball club of discriminating against white people and firing her after she complained.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Margo Kline filed a lawsuit Friday seeking punitive damages and a trial. The lawsuit said Hawks external affairs director David Lee, who is black, promoted a culture of discrimination against white people, and especially white women.

Kline, who is white, worked as a community development coordinator for five years before her March 2017 firing.

The lawsuit said Lee would make jokes about "white culture," hiring and promoting black employees -- who Kline said were less qualified -- over white people.

The NBA team denies Kline's claims and said it plans to defend against them. The Hawks' statement said discrimination claims are taken seriously and Kline's were thoroughly reviewed.
