The main piece of the trade was the 1st round pick from Memphis, Thabeet actually has negative value because we'll have to pay him 5 million this year and next year for keeping the bench warm. He's essentially like Jeffries, we're not going to pick up the option on him in a year.
****. OP got ****ing pwned. anyways thabeet brings something we don't have. I don't expect much outside of 20-25mpg, 4 fouls a game with 2 blocks.
i hope he follows thru on the tip jar...the site was good today handling all the traffic. The tip jar is in need of the money.
Did the OP fail? What did Morey give up of value? Battier was going to play somewhere else in a few months. Thabeet? He was the pill we had to swallow to buy a first rounder. Basically we paid 5 million for a mid first round pick(which is a good value). Thabeet is just the contract we used to purchase it.
Well....here goes: I know, right? I wanted to find my own thread to be the first to note my shock, but someone beat me to the punch! I am surprised...very surprised I'm leaning heavily towards the later right now...why? Right...but $5 million isn't really good value. It's the cost of a #2 pick in the draft. Moreover, it's not just $5 million one time, its another $5 million next year and then, in the event he shows any kind of promise, more the following year just to keep him restricted. This was NOT a cheap move. And, with the Rockets I think still over the luxury tax, continues to be NOT a cheap move. Yes, we gave up little of value. Except Shane would have potentially helped make a playoff push this year - I know, many want the tank route, and certainly NOW, that makes sense, but to anyone holding out hope for a playoff push, which would at least add some excitement to the seasons, that's out the window. Moreover, it would have been nice to be first in line with the ability to resign Shane in the offseason at a price that actually makes sense for what he brings to keep him on the team. He's currently ridiculously overpaid, but at least he puts some effort in on defense. But I'm still very surprised. This was a costly ($$$ wise) move. This gets us a player with potential, but not a lot imo. And it gets a draft pick...but when, and with what protection? Will DM even be around to put it to use? He's clearly an intelligent, hard working guy, but its about wins and losses, and absent a quick pop into the second round at the beginning of his tenure, it's been consistently downhill with DM. Even with fans that might understand you are consciously going through a rebuild, and DM was stuck with TMac and Yao, it's going to be hard for DM to continue to stay in the fans' and management's good graces. Basically, Thabeet needs to really become at least a meaningful player relatively quickly. Of course I'll follow-through. That was the whole point of the thread.
The OP didn't specify any of those conditions. It doesn't matter if Thabeet is a throw-in or the main piece. Morey traded for him, period That's pretty clear. Shouldn't put in excuses after the fact.
It's for a good cause, so I'll be ponying up this weekend. What's the next TipJar bet?? I need to break even! $20 says Thabeet's a bust. Any takers?
