Has Kobe Bryant become overrated defensively?

he's a really really awful off ball defender.

It's been pretty general consensus that Kobe's all-defense teams are BS and he's been coasting for 8 years on the hype from that one time he defended AI well for a series.

 

Last time I check, the team with the most points win.

 

This is true, which also means the team with the least points loses. Defense wins championships

 

Heres how the last 3 perimeter players that Kobe has checked have done vs him

Yesterday, Luol Deng, 5 for 16, 11pts
Friday, Rudy Gay, 7 for 26, 17 points
Wednesday, Eric Gordon, 7 for 23, 18 points

But ok Kobe is overrated defensively

 

Kobe has 5 so he must have been doing something right.

 

it couldnt be due to the fact that
A)your sample size is inadequate
B) having a shot blocking threat at center as kobe has ALWAYS had (minus the kwame brown years) leads to more jumpers
C) those three guys have been terribly inconsistent at jumpers this season

Of course not, its all because Kobe is a great defender..

Its true that maybe he doesnt deserve all those all defensive team selections, but Kobe is a great defender when he wants to be. He has to exert a lot of his energy on the offensive end and thus cannot give a complete defensive effort each and every play like an Avery Bradley Iman Shumpert. But trust me, Kobe can lock down any player if he wanted to

What is your point? We're asking if Kobe is a good defender. Nobody is asking how many points he scores, or how good is he. We're talking about his defense. Not questioning his skills and greatness in his offense.. c'mon bro.

Luol Deng isn't really known to be a great scorer..
Rudy Gay 7/26 isn't that uncommon.
Eric Goron isn't having a good season.

Kobe can still be a great defender when he wants to. Overall he is average on defense.

Harden... that boy needs major help. He has the rare combo of speed and strength but can't even guard his own shadow.

 

He is definitely overrated if you think he was guarding those guys

 

Eric Gordon has been crap this season. Rudy Gay was chucking jumpers and went 0-10 in the 4th and OT. The shots weren't even all that contested he just sucks at shooting.

Luol Deng is a bad scorer....

 

Kobe has been over rated defensively for over a decade. He has gone from a below average indifferent defender to a flat out poor one.

 

Seriously. Does this so-called "Laker fan" even watch the games? Kobe was getting lit up by Derozen in the Toronto game. Austin Rivers blew by him twice before he got injured in the Hornets game. I didn't see the Bulls game but since when is Luol Deng even a good scorer? And I doubt Kobe guarded him.
