Kelvin Cato was the best power forward Yao ever played next to. If we kept Kelvin in the Tracy trade, I think McGrady would have gotten out of the first round a time or two. Yeah, I can't believe he isn't in midseason form yet.
Wasn't he in awful shape coming into pre-draft workouts? He is very skinny, yet he had the highest body-fat % or something like that. Still young and lots of potential tho, although not on our team. Both, him and Montrezl, were running the floor very strange. Didn't like that, as well as bad off-ball defense by Montrezl.
Whoa didn't know he had that fadeaway jumper in his repertoire, Harrell is definitely an interesting prospect.
Ironically enough, I thought Cato's defense paired with Yao's ability to stretch the court would have worked out okay. But Cato was the "hallucination" for a reason.
Cato was your classic " got paid and quit tryin" NBA player. Harrell has some nice talents, pretty good nose for the ball, always active and not a bad defender down low. Has a long way to go tho, should spend a portion(at least) of the season in the valley, but if he works hard I could see him putting in some nice rotation minutes later on. As usual, Summer League means exactly jack crap, but it isn't hard to see the talent level with a few of these guys....just probably not enough to make the big club for most of them.
After a full season with the team i can see Harrell getting bigger just like Jones did but actually having the size difference improve his play on the court.
Agreed that one can't read too much into summer league, but here are my impressions from watching him yesterday live: His wing-span negates opponents' height advantage. Plays well above the rim. Decent on-ball, and post defender; can guard on the perimeter. Can probably guard the 5,4, and 3 spots. Non-stop motor. Developing a mid-range game. Can score in the post; developing a nice baby hook that helps him with taller defenders. Needs a year in the d-league, but the Faried comparisons are easy to see. Definitely looks like a great 2nd round pickup.
I don't think Harrell will become anything more than a high energy guy that can play very good defense (probably capable of guarding 2-4s, and occasionally 1s and 5s) and rebound with authority. He looks like he can finish strong near the basket too which is good. He has shown some moves though, so I wouldn't rule out his offensive potential. Regardless, he seems like the type of player people thought Thomas Robinson would be.
