Harden's MVP probability reaches historical peak, per BBR

I like Kyrie so much but the truth is Boston is winning with or without him. Brad Stevens is their biggest star. Maybe the problem (last year) was Isaiah Thomas because arguable a simple chair in the middle of the basketball court would have bigger positive defensive impact than him - but he is indeed really amazing offensive player.

 

I don't think Kyrie wins it with his current averages, even if Celtics finish with the best record in the league. He'd definitely get some 1st place votes, but not enough to win it, IMO. Narrative plays a role in the final MVP tally, but other factors also play into it. His ho-hum statistical production will hurt him.

Still don't expect him to win. He would need to finish the season playing as well as he is now. If he even has one bad month the media will be swift to knock him out of consideration.

Harden doesn't need to be scoring at his current blistering pace, but hopefully he'll settle into a groove that's sustainable throughout the season where he's playing very efficient offensive basketball and at least decent defense while remaining fresh. There's no reason for him to have a bad month in that case.

If Kyrie does win, and Harden maintains similar strong number with a very respectable team record, then there is no doubt in my mind there would be major calls for a change in how MVPs are voted or who gets to be an MVP voter.

Kyrie Irving is currently putting up numbers noticeably worse than when he was in Cleveland. 20/3/5 on 43/42/88 (TS 53%) are pitiful numbers for an MVP and worse than practically every MVP winner. He hasn't made the jump that people expected him to make but because Boston is so well-structured he is getting literally all credits for the win (when Al Horford is by far their best and most important player).

It's crazy how ESPN wants to give it to John Wall and The Greek Freak. Their teams ain't even that good, but I guess it doesn't matter since they gave the award to Westbrook, the media will give MVP to who they want. Come on man, John Wall and Greek Freak are your MVP???? STUPID ESPN

Yea, ESPN loves PG that can't shoot. They campaigned for Westbrook all last year despite the fact that he was on an average team with some great young players(Sabonis, Victor O). Now they are pushing John Wall, another PG that can't shoot.

Maybe Pierce is trying to be the next Barkley, saying stupid stuff to get attention.
