I doubted the statement on taking less than the max because it involved money. He also may have been willing to take less than the max but not as low as Presti wanted.

Regarding starting, if you read the context of when he said it recently, you could tell it was sincere. He didn't want to start there because it wasn't his comfort zone on that team and he was very happy playing there.

    Doesn't matter now.

You must have mixed emotions now b/c I know you follow OKC a lot too. How do you feel about the trade for both teams?

Comes down to 6-8 mil difference for him. I'm happy he's a Rocket, but does that extra dough really make that much of a difference for him long-term? He could have taken a few million less and still been part of a young and powerful OKC team rather than a little richer and on a young non-contending team. You think he's regretting that hardline stance?

$6-8 mil over 4 years => $24-32 million. That's a lot brother. Money talks in this business. There is no loyalty (team or player), with very rare exceptions of course.

Harden wants the max, and most likely he wants the superstar treatment from a team. Any 23 yo with his skillset would aspire for that.

Woj said OKC final offer was 4 years 53-54 mil, and the Rockets will sign him to 4 years 60 mil. So doesnt that mean 6-7 mil difference total, not per year?

Oops my bad, you're right. I guess Harden simply wants the max and his own team.

I wonder what the conversation with his agent was like upon hearing this news.

Maybe money's more important to James Harden than winning championships. Dating Trina ain't cheap......

Yeah. I guess all I'm saying is that if I were him, I'd take the cut to stay on a contender. What's the difference of 6-7 million if you're winning rings (leading to exposure, endorsements, etc). Would Harden have been on Team USA if he wasn't on OKC? Possibly not. I know money is #1, but winning has to be a big part of being a pro player. It will be interesting to see him adjust to being on this type of team.

I never got the feeling that Harden wanted to be the guy while on OKC so mainly I'm just afraid of him becoming another Joe Johnson. Regardless, I'm thrilled for the Rockets for this trade. We might have overpaid, but you got to when you're getting a 23 year old star.

Being a #1 option gets you more endorsements/publicity than a 3rd wheel on a championship contender (ask Manu). He might get into the HOF easier that way with OKC.

But it's understandable a 23yo with his aspirations would think he can do more. He will have his chance with us.

so, they essentially traded him because he was greedy and because they liked the rockets offer?
