Definitely not worth the max. The Thunder are fine on the wing and back court even without Harden. They should spend that money on a front court scorer.

Harden's efficiency and advanced stats are ridiculous, and he has upside since he's only 23 right now. I think it's a debatable pt whether he deserves a max contract. I wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand.

Don't underestimate the playing time/starter issue. As his agent notes, you want Harden to not take the max and commit another 4 years to not starting, even if he is an integral part of a championship squad? I would pass. If I'm going to get less than what I could get from multiple teams in the open market, I need something more than you can be a great 6th man on a good team.

People who says he isn't worth the max don't understand what his max is. We're not talking $18 million+ a year here. He's young, with a "cheap" max. Would you give Manu the max when he was younger? Absolutely... He had a solid 21+ PER, shot a ridiculous 66% TS%, can rebound, gets enough assists, is clutch, can play defense, and can create.

I can't think of a single potentially getable (though a long-shot) young player in the league I'd rather have.

if okc has the money, they should definitely give him the max. but given the situation okc is in, they are better off not giving a max to harden, unless they want to trade away westbrook

Harden has no desire at all to start at OKC. He's made that plainer than plain during training camp and the pre-season. He wants to come off the bench in the 1st half and play with Nick Collison and Eric Maynor. It's purely a matter of dollars. He's not like you.

Harden is not an elite player, but at 23 he is very damn near close. I am positive that there is a GM out there willing to take the risk on this guy. Morey should be all over him. He gets you one step closer to a championship and is a player that can potentially attract more all-star players to sign here.

Harden has earned the right to ask for a max contract. The question is will OKC offer him one?

Could be just media talk. Being a good teammate and not trying to start stuff by saying he should start. It's just like how Mario Williams said he was fine with playing in a 3-4 and he would do anything the coach asked him....come to find out he goes to Buffallo and says that he'd rather play in a 4-3. Players say this stuff like this all the time when asked...

With that said, He's not worth the max and I hope the Rockets don't go after him. He doesn't have that swagger that he's the best player in the world or that he's even the best player at his position. He does seem content with his role and for anyone that thinks he's a max player who just needs a bigger role that should be concerning.

Harden was asked if he thought he would sign an extension with the Thunder before Oct. 31 at media day today and he simply replied, “Yeah.” Harden went on to say that he is willing to “sacrifice” to stay in OKC and would accept less than a maximum contract.

    He also made that statement.
