Great and deserved tribute to Shane Battier by ABC on his last game. As JVG said a coach's dream. He was one of my favorite players and glad he got to win a championship in his career. Just wish it could've been with the Rockets.
Television? you mean politics... (yes I know he's got a deal with ESPN but that is just a stepping stone to world congress)
Shane WILL be an assistant or even head coach someday. I have no doubt in my mind. Brilliant player brought up under Coach K, a class act, great communicator, and an overall intelligent guy. If Derek Fisher can get a head coaching gig, Battier is a shoe-in.
Smart player. NBA hopefuls should take notes on all the little things he did. It could be the difference between making a roster or not.
I think Battier is going through the analyst/GM route instead of the coaching tree. No need to go through the rigors of NBA schedule when you can work less and gain more networking at the same time.
Love Shane Battier. One of my favorite Rockets moments as a fan was meeting Shane. Wrote a thread about it back in 2010. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=197689 I wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him as a broadcaster/analyst next year.
Battier has strong presence as the dependable professional amongst a bunch of brute jocks. But that doesnt mean he's the guy to do the HEAVY lifting of leadership taking ALL the reigns to lead others. His next gig as tv analyst actually makes a lot of sense. He gets to be the articulate guy getting all the credit for looking like he knows whats going on - without actually having to directly manage personalities and insert a system enforcing his vision. I don't see Battier as HEAD COACH type. More as a board room / front office type. Still he's someone thats gonna move up in his career
He's too calm, logical and detail oriented to become a head coach, as weird as that sounds. Maybe at the college level. Not NBA. I don't even think he wants to coach. If he did he'd probably be sticking with the Heat or be back on Duke's bench.
