Dream's a warrior, but he's not proud of that stuff. More to the point, it brings to mind memories of another punch...... Live it up. Have a ball at Symphony Hall. Just, show a little respect .....
I don't remember the fight as much as I remember his interview after the fight. It was hilarious because Marc Berman hyped it up as Hakeem Olajuwon was possessed by Satan. "After the break you will hear Hakeem Olajuwon's comments that he was possessed by Satan which led him to his fight with Antonio McDyess" WTF? Then I watched it and Hakeem said something to the effect of "Shaytan (arabic pronunciation of Satan) got the best of me. I fell into the trap of Shaytan and my fists came up." He was regretting it and whatnot then at the end Marc Berman was like "huh?" And Hakeem corrected himself, "Satan."
In Islam, we believe that the devil is always with every one of us whispering in our ears to do wrong things. All he can do is whisper tho. It isn't possessed by satan, it is more like being persuaded by satan.
I remember when this happened. I was very young...maybe only 5 or 6? I remember seeing he had been suspended for this, although only for a few games, I thought he had been suspended from the NBA forever. (Come on, I was very young) I literally cried. literally. Would love to see the video.
Would love to find this video too. Rep to whomever can find the holy grail Love this article about the fight. Remember reading this back in middle school Found this one. Dang, no wonder we hate the Lakers. There is some history there between these two franchises. It has been so many years ago, I had forgotten about the Hakeem v. Mitch fight. Hakeem was obviously not a man to be messed with.
I was watching it live. From what I recall, Dream actually missed - never landed - at least flush. I remember thinking "Damn, Dream... you are THE MAN in the court, but you can't throw a punch..."...lol. (I remember it looking very awkward and uncoordinated).
I also remember being "disappointed" that are big man, so dominant at what he does, wasn't "better" at fighting...lol. He was definitely no Calvin Murphy with his fists...
i like Barkley's quote better. Dream's human, people get pissed in the heat of battle. He apologized afterwards, so no big deal. this crap happens all the time back in the day
