You should probably be banned for even asking that. Who are you trying to compare him to? Let me guess LOL !!!
NEVER FORGET! i believe this was the last shot of our sweep of orlando. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Iz7ZUzqG93c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
His defense is largely forgotten by people today. He is remembered more fondly for his offense but his defense is just as elite. Not a single big man better than Dream.
Hakeem was the best defender of all time. Russell and Mutombo are 2nd Rodman is the best non-center of all time. I'd argue 4th best overall.
truth: all people care about these days is the highlight block instead of keeping it in play for your team
are you implying other people have more highlight reel blocks than Hakeem. truth: Hakeem was a stat machine on defense, but also did all the intangibles the best, as well.
if he cant spread the floor then he aint *****! give me ryan anderson or give me a top 3 lottery pick!
They sure allowed more contact back in the day. Amazing that Hakeem was able to be so successful both offensively and defensively.

Maybe the greatest playoff player in NBA history. He's top 10 in PPG all time: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/pts_per_g_career_p.html Of those top 10, none of the rest of them shot above 50 percent. Top 20 in rebounds per game: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/trb_per_g_career_p.html Number 1 in blocks per game: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/blk_per_g_career_p.html Top 20 in steals per game: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/stl_per_g_career_p.html This is a regular season stat, but I think it shows how important all the other stats matter to making your team better. He's top 3 all time in WAR for his career. Only Karl Malone and Michael Jordan made higher scores. http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=9840 Never ever underestimate a player whose regular season WAR is top 3 and then elevates his play AND stats for the playoffs. Hakeem = GOAT (if you're talking about the playoffs) and the only player worthy of compare is Michael friggin Jordan. That alone is huge. And open layup 3 person, you're an idiot. He hit a corner 3 in the final game against the magic in the finals. With ease.
I gotta add this tidbit. Many NBA historians and fans consider the greatest frontline in the game's history to be the 80s Celtics with Bird, McHale, Parish, and Walton. Hakeem averaged 25 and 12 against them in the finals and pushed them to 6 games. And if you don't think they were effective on defense, note that Ralph Sampson who averaged 20 and 11 against other teams, only averaged 15 and 10 against Boston. Hakeem was a competitive monster and has my vote for best ever.. in the playoffs. MJ is a very very close 2nd. I mean, who else can boast that they won an NBA title with zero future hall of famers to help them win it?
