Barkley not up to par


SO CHRIS WEBBER IS a better golfer than Charles Barkley. Just about everyone reading this is a better golfer than Chris Webber.

The two basketball greats, but golfing duffers, dueled at the Tahoe Celebrity-American Championship in Stateline, Nev., over the weekend. Before the tournament, Webber bet Barkley, whose swing is almost as ugly as Shaquille O'Neal's free-throw shooting, that he was the better golfer and that the loser would have to pay $50,000 to benefit a charity.

The tournament used the modified Stableford scoring system in which Webber finished at minus 74, ahead of Barkley's minus 84. In regular scoring, Webber shot rounds of 104-99-104. Barkley shot 103-105-104.

Overall, Barkley finished second to last, while Webber was third from last. Brad Garrett, of "Everybody Loves Raymond," was last. Former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver was first.

"Hey, it's all good. The best man won and now other people will benefit," Barkley said.
