Gitmo is merely a symptom, it always has been. Instead of treating the symptom, it is time we focus on the real disease, that is what needs to be addressed with the utmost urgency. It makes no difference in the world if we shut down Gitmo if we ALREADY have jails (some of which are really torture chambers) in which we treat AMERICAN CITIZENS this way http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-quigley/not-just-guantanamo-us-to_b_524226.html
First, there is no "the" problem. But Guantanamo is A problem, yes indeed. Second, Americans hate Muslims. I mean it's only just now becoming edgy to hate Negroes again. And Jews, it's still not very PC to be prejudiced against/torture them. Why can't the Muslims say thank you to us for not killing them. Torture is like Disneyland, relatively speaking. --Albert Einstein, theory of relativity
