I don't know how you could narrow it down to one, but here are two of my favorites.

    Paul Rodgers
    Cab Calloway

You should find the music tournaments, specifically the solo artists tourney to get an understanding of how this board feels. Anyways...

Best - Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin

2nd - Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver (I love both bands but rating him here - I base this mostly off his STP material)

Wow, this is so difficult for me to decide. I don't know what defines a "great singer", but some of the voices/talents I absolutely love :

    Anita Baker (auditory sex)
    Joni Mitchell
    Stevie Wonder
    Smokey Robinson (definition of smooth)
    Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey (no voice ever made me say "wow" like hers did when I heard her first album)
Celine Dion (can't stand her for some reason, but can't deny her voice is great)

Greatest, IMO, is Elvis Presley simply because of his importance to music plus he is a personal favorite of mine.

However, my all-time favorite singer is Freddie Mercury.
