How about beating them in 1996, Magic Johnson's comeback year? Many picked the Lakers to win that series and they had homecourt. (Of course, a few months later they got Shaq and Kobe)
All great memories, but beating the Lakers in '86 is my all time favorite. I also think that final game was the greatest and most exciting Rocket game I have ever seen. Anyone who mistakenly believes Ralph was soft needs to watch that game.
Would have been classic had it not been followed by this..... For me, the Sampson turnaround is still the singular moment because of what it led to....
I don't know if these are "great memories" but they are the reason I want to win against the Lakers more than most teams. Drinking beer with my grandmother in the best seats I've ever had, watching Yao hold his own against Shaq for their first meeting. Rockets won in overtime with Franchise scoring 44. I've only been to like 4 games, but man, what an epic one!
This is mine, too. That was the night of the Dye Hard Rockets event, where the first 20 people in line who agreed to have their hair dyed red got put up in a luxury suite for the playoff game that night. It was great seeing us beat down the Fakers in the only playoff game we won that year.
if we're talking about memorable (not necessarily positive) rockets-lakers events, then kermit washington vs rudy-t has GOT to be up there. changed the whole way the nba was officiated and scared everyone watching.
The first and early signs of Yao dominating Shaq during his rookie year. I believe it was this game. It was truly inspiring.
