Drug tests cost $12 a pop, and the administration costs that come with that, as well as everything else that comes from filing away tons of records and data. But yeah, nice to think you're thinking practical now, even if it's self-defeating. We should test a small pool of people now? I just gave you stats that indicated that welfare recipients in Florida actually probably are less on drugs than the general public. You're applying the same defeated logic of trying to catch a ghost that isn't there, but at least you're backing away and saying you don't want to go as far to catch it.

And I guess the able-bodied should be tested, whatever your definition of able-bodied is. How kind of you to give the elderly on drugs a repreive.

How is going after a safety net when it is most needed an "emotional argument"?:confused::confused: I just showed you the economic rationale behind why the safety net works (high short-term fiscal multiplier) and the social rationale should be obvious---though as you seem to like economic arguments, we can just say that the social side stems from the economic side. what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Key point: the economy is IN recovery. Yes, and that is when the safety net is most needed economically and socially.

Individualized anecdotal evidence is not convincing, and is solely biasing when not viewed in aggregate.

Fights breaking out over McJobs would suggest otherwise, but thanks for classifying all unemployed people looking for the optimum job considering their skills, and ability to contribute, as unimaginably stupid. I can only hope you don't go through unemployment---keep on getting with those cushy, comfortable jobs, if so, and resisting even frictional unemployment.

Did your degree involve a paper on welfare economics in the context of The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, as espoused by Gosta Esping Andersen, and a cross-country comparision of the welfare systems of traditional Anglo-Saxon nations, and different European nations in order to validate or disprove said thesis?

Does any of your jobs involve gathering data on welfare recipients in aggregate, and disbursing relevant government resources subsequently?

    i didn't think so ;)
