Are these rankings based on what they've done in the past week, or for the whole season? If you go by season stats, it seems like Yao has the upper hand on all of these guys.
Yeah...I know the power rankings takes minutes played into account, but something just isn't rigth about this list...... Anyone know the formula used for "power rankings" or a website that describes it?
The ranking is supposed to be updated every week. Sometimes, they do it every two weeks. Laziness or not.
They are based on the weeks performance. The winners of the (4) weekly awards of "Rookie of the week" is a good indication for who will be rookie of the Month. And winners of the (6) Rookie of the Month awards is a good indication for ROY. Remember, each month there is an East and West Rookie of the Month. So, for the first week in March, Gooden got the East nod and Yao the West. Yao already has two rookie of the month awards to Amare's one. They are the only two people really in the equation for the award with Caron Butler and Gooden behind them. Chris
No wonder Yao will win this month's rookie award, which will put him two times ahead of Amare. Therefore, it is obvious Amare is out of the ROY Race.
Now that's what I'm talking about... Anyway... The east is weak and Yao will win the ROY...No doubt about it...
The book so far has: Nov Butler, Gooden Dec J. Williams, Yao Jan Butler, Stoudemire Feb Butler, Yao I don't know why people always talk about Yao, Stoudemire running 1-2 and hardly ever give Butler any thought!
Because Butler is on one of the worst team in EAST conference. You put Yao or Amare or even Gooden on Miami, any one of them could have got 4 ROMs already. There is noway for Butler to average 37 minutes shooting 39% on a good team, just ask Eddie.
The fallacy of the rookie of the month count is that somebody in the Eastern conference HAS to win the EC rookie of the month. Given that there is less competition in the east (more now that Gooden is on the Magic), of course it's going to be easier for Butler to rack up the ROM awards. It doesn't mean that he should win ROY just because he won more EC ROM awards.
ragingFire, do you understand how the system works? There was really no top rookie over in the east unless you count J-Will who really is not living up to what many thought of him. In the west Yao, Amare and Gooden have to battle for the ROM, Yao got two of those which is good because it was against better competition. Gooden, if he keeps it up, will easily rack up the remaining ROM of the East awards. Butler has not done anything spectacular. Seriously, do you think he deserves to be put up above Amare of Yao?
butler won 3 awards simply because they HAVE to pick someone from the east. if you consider the actual "best rookie of the month" from november to february without considering the conferences, Butler and JWil loses out to western rookies in all 4 months. Haven't you noticed that the leader of the Got Milk Power Rankings is almost always from the west (November to February)? Anyway, I don't think Butler will win any more "ROM of the East" this season now that Gooden and Giricek are both in the East.
