Per Adam Schefter, Megatron told Coach Jim Caldwell that 2015 was his last season. Hopefully Schefter got that wront because it would be great to see Megatron back next season and hopefully have a better season than he did in 2015 but if not, it was fun watching him the last few years.
He's not what he used to be and you can tell his body is paying the price already for all the injuries he's sustained. I don't know how anyone couldn't respect his decision.
Seems like just yesterday and now leaving at the [young] age of 30. Man, time flies. Lions "only" got two winning seasons & playoff appearances during his time. <PRE> Game Rece Rush Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Tgt Rec Yds Y/R TD Lng R/G Y/G Att Yds TD Lng Y/A Y/G A/G YScm RRTD Fmb AV 2007 22 DET WR 81 15 10 93 48 756 15.8 4 49 3.2 50.4 4 52 1 32 13.0 3.5 0.3 808 5 1 6 2008 23 DET WR 81 16 16 150 78 1331 17.1 12 96 4.9 83.2 3 -1 0 7 -0.3 -0.1 0.2 1330 12 3 10 2009 24 DET WR 81 14 14 137 67 984 14.7 5 75 4.8 70.3 7 73 0 19 10.4 5.2 0.5 1057 5 3 7 2010* 25 DET WR 81 15 15 137 77 1120 14.5 12 87 5.1 74.7 4 32 0 15 8.0 2.1 0.3 1152 12 1 10 2011*+ 26 DET WR 81 16 16 158 96 1681 17.5 16 73 6.0 105.1 1 11 0 11 11.0 0.7 0.1 1692 16 1 15 2012*+ 27 DET WR 81 16 16 204 122 1964 16.1 5 53 7.6 122.8 1964 5 3 14 2013*+ 28 DET WR 81 14 14 156 84 1492 17.8 12 87 6.0 106.6 1492 12 1 12 2014* 29 DET WR 81 13 13 128 71 1077 15.2 8 67 5.5 82.8 1077 8 0 9 2015 30 DET WR 81 16 16 149 88 1214 13.8 9 57 5.5 75.9 1214 9 1 10 Career 135 130 1312 731 11619 15.9 83 96 5.4 86.1 19 167 1 32 8.8 1.2 0.1 11786 84 14 83 </PRE> Spoiler <strike>1-1. I feel bad for all those fans who no longer get to complain about "Megatron wasting his career with the Lions! Deserves a trade!" Guess they can all come down to Houston and start exclaiming that drivel for JJ Watt.
At least he was smart to hang it up....instead of flaming out like Andre. (great decision...and great season with the colts...)
I had him on my fantasy team, Stafford never threw him the ball any more. He should just do the Randy Moss and play with Brady and the Patriots.
Looks like he made about 50 million. That's a good life. House Paid. Bills taken care of. Can travel freely. But it's still not boatload safe money after taxes. If in pain that's a fair decision, health is most important, but leaving almost 35 million on the table for just two years of limited service remaining. I'd take the money and fight my way through like Steve Nash. Take a little criticism, but worth the grab. I mean you here guys like Jim MacMahon talk about staring at a ceiling all day in pain, which is too much to deal with, but I'd take my chances for 35 extra million and a comfortable life without working.
Calvin johnson seems like a smart guy I don't see him blowing his cash. 25mil at 4% year interest is a million dollars a year.

While I truly respect the significance of this, those who know me best will understand and not be surprised that I choose not to have a press conference for this announcement. “After much prayer, thought and discussion with loved ones, I have made the difficult decision to retire from the Lions and pro football. I have played my last game of football. “Let me assure you that this was not an easy or hasty decision. As I stated, I, along with those closest to me, have put a lot of time, deliberation and prayer into this decision and I truly am at peace with it. “I also want you to know that I have the utmost respect and admiration for the game of football. It has provided so much for me and my family and I will be forever grateful to the game. “With the reality of my decision, I realize there are a lot of people I would like to thank. I must start with my family – thank you for all your love and support. “I also want to especially thank Mrs. Ford and the Ford Family for all their support over the years. They are tremendous owners and I loved playing for them. I would also like to recognize Mr. Ford, who I was honored to know and play for before he passed away. “While it would be hard to name them all, I would also like to thank all of my teammates past and present. “I also want to thank all of my coaches who I played for, in particular Coach Caldwell for his support, wisdom and guidance over the past two seasons. I loved playing for Coach Caldwell. “There are so many other people I would like to recognize and thank for what they have done for me throughout my career, but rather than risk forgetting someone, I will simply say “thanks” to everyone. “And finally, to the fans of Detroit and Michigan. I so appreciated your passionate support over the years and truly enjoyed playing for you. I loved playing in Detroit and will forever be a Lion. My biggest regret is that I wasn’t able to help give our fans a championship. But I do believe the future of the Lions is bright and with the leadership from people like Rod Wood and Bob Quinn, who I have gotten to know over the past few months, I am confident that our fans will soon be rewarded with the championship you deserve. “From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for everything.”[/rquoter]
