Yeah
When did I want a ban of ads? Hmm... SMH Her team made a bad decision and it is going to backfire in the worst way.
The real mistake was being immature or desperate enough to think that hypocrisy is a meaningful argument in any debate. They could have just talked about Abbott's actions as a judge without idiotically assuming that discussing his own tragedy: and revealing it for voters who hadn't heard about it before, would somehow make him less sympathetic.
Forgive me. I couldn't tell, since you made no comment except your title. Next time, as Jim Rome says, "Have a take, or you suck." There you go.
They should have discussed how Abbott helped change the law after winning the lawsuit, so that no one could sue the way he did in Texas anymore.
Davis should have stuck to the issues. She could hammer home decisions Abbott made on the Texas Supreme Court. There is ample material there. Going after his disability is just low. It is akin to Clayton Williams refusing to shake Ann Richards' hand and calling her a liar. That just doesn't sit well with Texans.
I am not sure how criticizing him for suing for millions over his own disability and then showing how he's been hypocritical is going after his disability. Why is this going too far? If you use your disability to gain an advantage with voters shouldn't that be open for the opposition to scrutinize?
Though I'd love to be wrong, she really has no shot of winning anyways. Too many Hannity lovers in this state still for her to have a real shot.
Ann Richards got in because the GOP put up a sociopath, other than Dan Morales what Dem was ever a serious contender here? Even the liberals here are anti-environment and no one will ever agree to a state income tax. And there are a lot more Hispanic conservatives than the "demographics is destiny" crowd realizes.
But she's not going after his disability - she's going after his refusal to allow the same legal remedies to those who suffered similar, life-changing injuries. Frankly, I can't even fathom how mean-spirited or (more likely) corrupt someone must be to lack so much empathy. Granted, I havnt seen the ad and perhaps the imagery is over the top and in poor taste. But I think the message is valid - Abbot is a guy who will do what's best for him and then actively prevent others from having the same rights. Is that what people really want for governor? A guy who will waste millions on pointless voter fraud investigations and EPA lawsuits (all clearly done for show) but feels our economy can't afford to pay the injured a fair settlement or expand Medicare (for which Texas citizens have already paid anyways). We all thought Perry was bad but Abbot is truly frightening and even more so when you envision him paired with Dan Patrick. I know Wendy doesn't have a chance in today's political climate - the low info GOP voters will be turning out in droves to vote against anyone with any association to the party of Obama (even when the particular office has no real involvement with federal government) but the majority of other voting demographics will just stay home. I'm amazed that they can't foresee how bad things are going to get, but I guess that's par for the course.
Seems like that's basically the theme of the ad. Can't get into policy nuance in 30 seconds, but they're highlighting hypocrisy and a history of anti-consumer (ish) behavior.
