I'm looking for something more complex than Notepad, but don't need an expensive WYSIWYG HTML editor. I don't do much with HTML, and therefore don't want to spend a lot of money (preferably, none). And since it seems that I'm always having to mess with the code anyway, I might as well code by hand to begin with. I'd like an editor with a tabbed interface, syntax highlighting, and (if possible) code completion for (X)HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
One word: VIM. (there's this other one that's supposedly a fork of the old Mozilla editor, called Nvu I believe. You might want to check it out too.)
There's also VIM for Windows at http://www.vim.org/download.php . It checks your HTML syntax based on stylesheets, and it's colorful. Your Linux distributions already have "Vi improved."
jedit is the best i've used so far. just be sure you get the free html authoring pluggins through pluggin manager.
