I am going to Southern California this summer, (The San Clemente/Dana Point area) and am looking for a real nice golf course to play within two hours or so of this area.

Is Donald Trumps course in LA nice/worth playing? How about Torrey Pines? If any of you played at those places or have other course suggestions, please help me out.

I've played several courses in the SoCal area before, but nothing outrageously nice and expensive (which is my goal this summer).

Also, I am playing at Avery Ranch Golf Course in Austin next month. Anybody know anything good/bad about that course?

    Thanks clutchfans!

Torrey Pines should be on every golfer's bucket list. I still need to do it.

I just played Avery on Wednesday. It's, IMO, one of the tougher courses in town. Keep it in the fairways. Not much room on the outside if you miss. If I had half a brain, I would have left my woods in the bag and just gone out there with my 4 iron, a wedge, and my putter. I would have done much better than I did.

Torrey is cool. Be sure and call ahead so you can get on the South Course.
That's the US Open and Sat/Sun tournament course. I haven't played the North.

There is a Municipal course in Carlsbad ( right between the corporate offices of Callaway, Titlest and Taylor) that cost like $300 million dollars to build. It was under construction when I was there last.
