I was watching the news about how a group of teenagers came together to fix an old lady's roof that was damaged from Hurricane Rita. This was a volunteering effort. The newsman asked her how she felt. She replied, "it's a miracle from God. He sent them." I'm not quoting word for word, but it's basically the quote. My question is, why didn't she give the teenagers the credit? That they spent their time and money to fix her damn house? That they have good hearts? She never thanked the teenagers (on camera, at least). But if God receives the credit for the work, then who receives the blame for damaging her roof by creating the hurricane? Mother Nature? How unfair.
You're starting to get it. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gFSPXZJtk2A?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gFSPXZJtk2A?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I'm not asking the existence of God, so don't be offended if you're Christian. What I'm addressing is the ignorance of giving God (your God) credit for everything good that happens. You're not considerate of other people's beliefs. One time I went with a friend to a ceremony and did not know certian procedures in church. She told me, "it's okay. You're not a sinner if you don't know." I also usually get something like "God bless you." Yeah, these people don't mean any bad (they're good people by the way), but what are they high on?
Personally, if someone were to appreciate me or something I did enough to consider it a "gift from god" I think I'd be appreciative of the thanks such a comment is meant to convey. But I'm agnostic so what do I know.
god is always there when i make a touchdown, but can't seem to find him after a fumble. what a bandwagoner.
God just sent me a text asking if I would save this lady's kitten stuck up in the tree. But I'm busy surfing Clutchfans! Damn it!! I'll do it, but he owes me BIG time

I always thought the best part of being atheist with an office job is that I didn't have to give a **** about God or weather. But I also think by calling it miraculous she's actually praising the teenagers a bit more. A better analogy, imagine if your girl said "thank god for this amazing orgasm," still offended?
Yes. I induced that life-changing orgasm, not God. He does get way too much credit for things. It's caused by certain people being deathly afraid of loneliness and chance, so to cope, their minds perceive everything as somehow related to and/or caused by God. Like the OP said, God made those kids fix the roof, but God didn't damage it in the first place. It's an unhealthy, self-deceptive way to live and I try not to think about those people too much, as it hurts my head. A better thing to say would have been "These kids are doing God's work." Gives the kids credit and acknowledges that God wasn't around himself to fix the roof, which an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient being very well could do. It probably goes back to the fact that he wanted her roof ruined in the first place. Also, why is Jesus playing football in sandals? Get this man some Nikes. (on a side note, if I saw a bearded dude in a dress tackling my young children, I'd call the cops.)
OP, you have spoken the truth. Everything good or great that happens is because God's hands was involved. Yet, if you ever find yourself in a pit of snakes, being chased by a axe wielding maniacal ex, or being in a plane that's about the crash. I guess he was just going to bathroom or something, or suddenly turned his head.

God never gets enough credit.
