Sounds to me like he is just paralyzed by his anxiety of how she will respond to him. If his mind were blank he would just act in the moment, not plot how or when he would approach her.
1. Talk about class then make a joke about a part of lecture. 2. Approach her and talk about a quiz/test and complain about how tough/easy it is. 3. Then go ask if you wanna study together so you can help her or vice versa BOOM! Simple ingredients my friend

This is what I do when I am not a nerve-riddled wreck haha I just gotta learn to compose myself when I start to feel the pressure. And I'll take your word on the whole texting thing, I was one of those friendzoned suckers and well it sucks. Alot.
Invite her to the church picnic. If she says she doesn't attend church, then you are better off without her.
Been there. Like others have said, STOP OVER-THINKING, take a deep breath and just be you. If she doesn't like YOU, then move on because there are tons of other great girls/women out there who will. It's not about playing games or acting like you don't care or confidence. Just tell her that you'll tutor her for free. Give her your number and tell her to text you if she wants tutoring. Worst case she says no. If she says she is good at whatever the class is, tell her you suck at it, and maybe she can help you. If she texts you, or wants to meet up, go to a place like Panera*, as it could be seen more as a "date" or you could extend it to a movie or something else fun more easily. She should get the hint. *If this is an anatomy class, and you tell her you'll tutor her, and she accepts, be prepared to do the tutoring at home.
Easy. Practice with other girls first. Should've already done that a long time ago. Just say hello to many females a day and work your way up saying entire sentences.. lol. Sentences to small convos. You'll likely embarrass yourself many times, but who cares? Not like you're going to jail or your health worsens. No pain, no gain
