I am Yoruba and knew Giannis was immediately I heard his last name even though it had a Greek spelling. Yorubas were the most sought after slaves during the slave trade because of our agricultural prowess. So a lot od African Americans are desendants of Yorubas as well. In Brazil Yoruba is still being spoken due to the large number of Yorubas taken there.
