PS4 coming Friday, but I am having my first Child in January. Those of you who have children, how hard is it to find time to play video games after you have kids? I'm spending about $600 on the system and a few games (including nba 2k14). Just hope I don't end up having it sit around because I'm too busy to play. I know none of you can tell me exactly because it depends on many things, but just looking more for other people's experience who have been in the situation. Btw, I'm not a addictive gamer or nothing, even now I may play on average 3 - 4 hours per week.
Consider it an investment. I bought my PS3 when it was released back in November of 2006 for about $600. I'm still playing the same exact system seven years later. Its been worth $86 over these past seven years, and I'll probably get a lot more use out of it. I don't intend on getting the PS4 for a bit.
It is an investment like JohnDoe said. I've had my PS3 for 5 years and no problems. Xbox 360 has been a different story.
When Uncharted 2 came out, I was so into it and my then gf would not stop talking while I was playing so I had enough and just yelled "Can you be quiet please?!!?!?" She broke up with me.
It's not so much that you can't find the time... it's that will you really want to play at that point when you do. I can find an hour or two of "rest" a day, depending on the day and work, and chores, etc.... granted, that's pushing my bed time a bit, and with 2 kids. With 1 kid, could probably find more. But in that free time, I have no desire to do anything productive or that makes me think in any way.
If you're not an addicted gamer, then no prob. I used to game while holding my newborn. Take breaks when the baby needs attention. (Feeding , Diaper change, etc.) The only one holding you back will be your wife. Dump Her Now ! jk...
My wife and I play games together. My son was born July 25. Since then my wife and I have played and finished: Fallout 1 (Had started before his birth) Jade Empire The Last of Us Costume Quest You should have plenty of time at the beginning, babies sleep a lot. I'll see after about 6 months how much playing we will be doing.
Honestly I preordered one when they announced but I ended up axing the preorder a few days ago. I'm gonna hold off on the purchase until I have more time on my hands to validate spending 500+ on a game system. And I'm not one to buy it and let it sit, I've learned many a times its better to have the money in case of an emergency. Hell i STILL haven't beaten GTA 5! The sad thing is these days when I do find free time I use it to just surf the internet or go do something else. I miss the days where you could just sit down for hours and game. Being an adult sucks sometimes LOL
So the overall concensus is the ps4 comes before the kid right? lol. If I could even play half a game in mygm mode each day I'd be happy, it would take me about 6 months to finish a season.
New dad here with a 3 and a half month old. It's pretty tough playing video games with the baby when I have to hold him. When playing NBA 2k, I have to have the CPU v CPU until I get the baby to fall asleep so I can jump back in. Most of the time my wife gives me crap when I'm trying to play and the baby needs attention. The baby only naps like 10 or 20 mins at a time until nighttime. Honestly, you're not going to get much burn on that PS4 for a while.
lol, "when I have to hold him." dude. step away from the controller. You'll get more time later, and maybe he'll even play with you one day, if you haven't alienated him with it.
With all the needs the PS4 will garner, time with your kid will at a premium. i say give the PS4 a break every couple of hours so it doesn't overheat. That's the perfect time to change or feed the baby.
I'm getting it too, but classes are such a pain in the ass to deal with esp when a next ten console comes out..sigh sucks that it is getting released right around final exams..
