...does not mean you're entitled to shoot the ball. Mutombo, and to a lesser extent Howard, seem to regard this as gospel. In a way, it makes some intuitive sense. It's a bonus possession anyway, so shouldn't the big guy be rewarded for his effort?

But intuition is flat out wrong. You do what's right for the team. And doing what's right for the team...well, almost never, ever involves Dikembe shooting the ball if it involves taking the ball down. He's horrible at it. He telegraphs his shot worse than Yao, he's slower than Ostertag, and he's not accurate if by some God-given miracle he manages to put the shot up (even from 2 feet away).

Pass the ball Deke. Don't nullify one of your better attributes.

    that's not our problem.

our problem is that the refs have a gospel about not letting yao ming play basketball. those sons of *****es.

This game goes to show you how badly we need a tough physical guy at the PF position to take the beating that everyone else on the team shys away from.

Haven, agreed 100%, it is almost sickening when Mutumbo gets an offensive rebound, to watch all 5 defensive players collapse around him, while knowing he is going to pivot to all hell, only to flop, hopefully get the freethrow and then miss 1 of 2 free throws. With our shooters, he should be kicking it out as fast as possible.

Mutumbo getting a tech after not getting a call after the offensive rebound was laughable. The guy clearly is thinking of nothing else but getting to the basket regardless of the number of defenders.

At least he cares to go for the rebound unlike the rest of the team (sans Bob Sura).... We shot a higher fg% than the utah, we just had much less attempts because we couldn't grab a damn rebound.

    A possible solution:

    PG: James
    SG: Wesley
    SF: TMac
    PF: Deke
    C: Yao

Having a "twin tower" lineup while Deke was still young could have worked. Unfortunately, he's old. I don't think we'll have a good backup at the 5 once we have both Deke and Yao out of the game. Plus, how many minutes can Deke play without being winded? If he's still capable, I would love to see the Rockets pull that off. I'm sure JVG thought about this when we had trouble rebounding, but something has to be holding him back to try this.

    Go Rockets!

I couldn't watch the game, so I watched Kansas v. OSU. I'm no scout, but Simien would be an intriguing pickup for the Rockets. He can grab rebounds and finish.
