George Karl named Coach of the Year 2. Erik Spoelstra 3. Mike Woodson 4. Greg Popovich 5. Frank Vogel 6. Lionel Hollins 7. Mark Jackson 8. Tom Thibodeau 9. Kevin McHale 10. P.J. Carlesimo 11. Vinny Del Negro 12. Larry Drew 13. Doc Rivers 14. Scott Brooks
Almost everybody projected the Rockets to not make the playoffs this year after a roster overhaul (and I think even after signing harden), yet Coach McHale coached the Rockets to a No. 8 seed. He should have won. Incredible.
Not saying McHale should have won cause I think he has poor coaching rotations but he did get the team into playoffs on a complete roster overhaul. Top 3 at least...Top 8 is just dumb. 1. Pop 2. Spo 3. McHale
They lost Brewer (who did start the majority of the games last season), Korver, Asik (who we see how much of an impact he is) oh and not to mention the only person to win MVP other than Lebron since 2008. Still finished 5th and is now 1 and 1 with the Heat. He (Tom) is solid, tough, smart and makes his team better.
Exactly what I thought. I don't really care about all these awards. You can't judge a coach's work by a single season just like you can't judge a player by a month's play. A lot of MIP didn't do very well afterward. And DPOY is mostly voted by reputation. MVP is like "Who's turn is it this year?"
I think Karl is a good choice. Has been a good coach for many years, and he had his team clicking mid-to-late-season without any real franchise player. Thib has a similar argument, and I would have been good with that too. Spo's got the superfriends, but they did some special stuff this season, including that ridiculous winning streak. I don't have a problem with him getting some credit for that.
pop had a strong case. He got so many injuries through the year and yet he managed to get the second seed on the west and 3rd overall best record, with an aging core. Spoelstra is a good coach, but its easy when u have lebron, dwade, bosh, allen , etc etc. Too much talent.
