Aghast, Yao has actually decreased the use of that left arm in the past few years. Today, when he pulled it on Chris Andersen, I specifically remembered taking a mental note that he was intentionally keeping that left arm down. It looked almost awkward when compared with his earlier spins. But, even if he did maintain that left arm swipe, there's no way the league would or should make that call. Shaq was the only other player that I can remember to use the same move on a consistent basis, and he used his off arm much more than Yao does. The only time that the off arm would actually be called is if there's an obvious impediment of the defender's movement or if the offensive player hooks the defender.
yao so rarely uses that spin move that even if i considered that an offensive foul I'd gladly let the refs call that on him if he even got half the other fouls that he should get from players guarding him. that's at best an extremely weak example of yao getting away with something. the fact remains, that yao is not only the worst officiated player in the league today, but it's borderline tampering that stern hasn't corrected the referees on the matter.
You're right; that move was a staple of Lakers-era Shaq, and it wasn't called then either. As to whether it should be called, I prefer it to be, but I also prefer to live in the world of the bizarro NBA, in which traveling is called even going to the basket, three seconds last three seconds, and Michael Jordan gets called for the push off on Bryon Russell, even if it means Utah wins the series.
Dirty? You are right, Yao need more this kind of dirty to become a real super star if you think that is a dirty. Rockets will win more games when Yao gets mad, which I have always said before.
yep. I've noticed that this year especially, too. historically, you would hold your breath that there wouldn't be an offensive foul called on Yao on that move (he had been called for it on and off in the past), but this year, he just isn't using it as much. NBA rules are bizarre. You'd like them to actually follow the rulebook, but they don't. George Karl is on a very short leash, I'd imagine. Their start has been great, and they are now without Carmelo for a little bit. But, even when fully healthy, it's hard to see them advancing much. If they can win their division, they have a shot at getting to the 2nd round, and Karl being around again next year. But he's done less with more than most coaches still in the league today. He's had some really really talented teams historically. Talent wise, he should have a championship already.
George Karl hasnt seen dirty yet. <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v229/m0nk3y/?action=view¤t=untitled.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/m0nk3y/untitled.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
good thing we have our own "Man behind the curtain" with Morey. Is Artest the Horse of a different color?
I'm so happy that George Karl called Yao dirty! Finally, Yao is playing like a thug! I've never dreamed of this day. Wow, a black man is president. Yao Ming is dirty! Truly the world is a-changing. This is the kind of Yao we need to lead us Houston fans to the promised land!!!
I don't see anywhere George mentioned "dirty", he just tried to find excuse for the loss, and every coach does that. On the "holding", "grabbing", I don't see any problem with it, every NBA player is doing that.
i've met Karl before and trust me, he's nothin but an arrogant ass. i wouldn't put too much stock in anything he sasys
wow, picking yao to complain? it pretty much explain who he is. he is lowering himself to the same level as mark cuban.
Yup, remember Karl Malone and how is glorified in this league? how many people did he injure in his career and nothing happened to him?
That little spin move Yao does is not a foul. Geesh!!! But, if the Refs called all that leaning on Yao by the defender, I bet every Rocket fan would trade that supposed foul by Yao. I'll take Yao Mings little hook shot any day over the spin... If any move deserves to be called signature, it's the hook shot, not the spin. But, I'll revert to my original suggested Idea. Once the Refs called Yao for the Technical foul, Yao got every single call when he was fouled. Something that had been happening the entire game. His nastiness got the Refs respect.
