UT didn't have Mack Brown lined up when they dumped Mackovic. The original front runner was Gary Barnett. After several interviews, bigwig alums (including Tom Hicks, I believe) pushed Brown into the frontrunner spot and he eventually was offered the job.
is there a thread or any conversation about Kingwood native Josh Pastner getting the head coaching job at Memphis? what a great opportunity for him. I knew when he was a scout/assistant for Lute Olson at UA that he would go on to big things. I just didn't think replacing John Calipari at age 31 was in the works for him yet. he ought to stay at Memphis for a long time and (continue to) build a great program. he and his family have contributed a lot to the Houston basketball scene...
I think they had hopes of keeping some of the high quality recruits by hiring Josh, but it sounds as though that isn't working to their liking. Other than possibly Xavier Henry. Though they have all decommitted, latest being Nolan Dennis. And Cousins has already verbally committed to Kentucky. But he's a great recruiter so I think they will be okay after this season. I was looking forward to having him at UK next season.
