Ok for the most part everyone says Yao is a very good player some say he is the best center or 2nd best center in the whole NBA. Today Yao was named all nba 2nd team so the professionals seem to think Yao is a top 10 player in the NBA. His vote count is around 8th best I believe.

Critic will argue Yao is too injury prone and will never last. This makes me think of Shaq who is arguable the best center of this era OUTSIDE OF DREAM. Shaq has 4 titles. Lets look at games he played in his first 7 years in the NBA

    Shaq

    1. 81 games
    2. 81 games
    3. 79 games

    4. 54 games
    5. 51 games
    6. 60 games
    7. 49 games

    Now lets look at Yao

    1. 82 games
    2. 82 games
    3. 80 games
    4. 57 games
    5. 48 games
    6. 55 games
    7. 77 games

Now what would have happened if the Lakers got rid of Shaq after his 7th year in the NBA?

What happened in years 8, 9, and 10?

Brilliant, but he had a full season in 99, playing 49 of 50 games.

no the question is durability. Most people say Yao is great but too injury prone. Don't try to change the topic it's sad and a bad debating trick. Not to mention the change in NBA illegal defense rules and zone defenses effecting big men today.

Do you happen to know what injuries hampered Shaq for those four seasons?

Shaq was faking injury most of the time because he got bored of the regular season.

i am still waiting to read more about yao's latest injury to be 100% certain that he's injury-prone. right now i am not totally sure yet.

but i really didn't remember shaq missing all the games in those early years.

Yao would have had a full season this year if it was a shorten season too. He played in 77 regular season games and 9 playoff games.

its a good thread, but someone needs to figure out what kind of things were keeping shaq out. knowing him some of it was probably laziness and minor injuries that he would just sit out with because he knew the playoffs were all that mattered
