I agree, they had tons of material in book 4 and 5 for them to work with. The problem is they decided to change things up and kill characters in the books like Barristan (who I feel was miscast since day 1 btw) who have important roles to play and are still alive in said books. They also completely ignored the Golden Company and Victarion subplots which could have stretched things out for a couple of more seasons. My guess is they felt that in the long run GRRM would leave them high and dry by not producing the material fast enough so they wanted to end it while they could. Except somewhere along the way they decided to solve every problem posed by GRRM with laughable plot contrivances or complete disregard.
Exactly---that right there is the biggest problem I have. Its like a highschool JV team going up against the warriors. If you're going to cut straight to the scoreboard and have the JV team winning you better damned have a logical explanation. Cersei was not this powerful in the books. In the show she is invincible for some reason. Euron will always show up out of nowhere and have more power than 2 dragons, an assassin, a bran see'er and what ever the **** else.
Maybe the night itself is just CGI too. CGI darkness... Yep, this is where adaptions always have issues. The more they stray from the source material the more issues they often have. I also feel like HBO kind of shunned GRRM, I think he would have happily written for the show (and be its guiding hand) but once it became clear to him that they were just going to do whatever they liked he stepped aside and seemed (at least IMO) to have taken a very cold attitude towards the show. He doesn't promote it or talk about it much and seems a lot more excited about the prequel series now in which he has a little more control over? I guess we'll see.
im rewatching season 7 on lunch breaks/ect. i just saw this scene which doesnt bode well for varys... "i will return to westeros. i have to die in this strange country...just like you"
I liked your post I just singled this part out to show how impossible it is to please everyone with all the decision-making. It doesn’t absolve them of some of the stupid **** they’ve done, but it’s a big task they’re trying to accomplish. We had people complaining after episode 1 that we wasted precious screen time showing Jon revealing his lineage to Dany when the audience already knows. Now they cut a bit of that out and you’ll have people unhappy that we don’t see Arya and Sansa’s reaction. Ultimately I agree with you, I want to see it too, but there’s going to be a lot of unhappy viewers either way.
I know it's a British show and not entirely Hollywood, but they luv themselves some Scandinavian actors. Mads Mikkelsen like........ all sorts of tough guy roles/acts. Does not surprise.
