Picked up mine and waiting on this massive ass update. Guess I will have to wait till tomorrow after all :-/
1) You shouldn't have to do this. What the hell was WB thinking with this port? 2) Many people are reporting issues even after changing the fps cap in the ini file. I haven't been able to test it out yet on my rig (i7 4790k, 16 GB Ram, GTX 970), but I've seen people with similar specs complaining about performance.
I messed around with it a bit before work, My Setup Acer XB280HK 4k Gsync i7-4790k (OC to 4.5ghz) 16gb Ram Titan X (OC to 1450 ghz) Getting everywhere from 50+ fps down to an occasional 20-24 when in the Batmobile. That's with everything maxed out and the Nvidia Gameworks stuff on, might try turning some of that stuff down to get better framerate. Can't say I'm impressed with the graphics, but I only played for like 5-10 minutes. Also cutscenes were stuttering even with gsync. Hoping some of this stuff gets fixed.
That was the other reason, PC ports are like the red headed step child of gaming. The last game I bought for PC I believe was Southpark: Stick of Truth (which was awesome). I knew there'd be a giant patch so I took a nap prior to. Game planning, son! This is the other reason. I was a competitive PC gamer for years, and I got tired of spending a ridiculous amount of money on hardware only to have to min max everything. All that optimization has been done for me on consoles, I plug the disk in...it installs...I play. I don't have to worry about how many frames I'm getting. I might be missing some details in the graphics, but I was playing the game last night and I thought it looked amazing. Also, if you don't find this game graphically impressive, I think you need to take a step back and remember Mario Brothers, or hell...Batman for Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo. It's also quite fun, looking forward to playing more.
Shadow of Mordor, which was also a WB developed game ran amazing on just about everything. Arkham knight feels like a lazy port which is weird because Arkham Asylum and City were great on PC. I've heard on neogaf that this one wasn't ported to PC in-house at Rocksteady and was outsourced. There has been plenty of games in the recent past that have been ported or developed to run well on PC that stuff like this game is inexcusable.
I didn't say all games, I made a generalized statement. I also didn't excuse anyone, you're preaching to the converted here. I'd say ports being handled outside of their primary developer is prettttttty common -- hell I'd even say it's the norm. Exceptions are when developers do it in house like Monolith on Shadows of Mordor (assuming that's the case).
I'm just a bit disappointed I guess, with the crazy expensive DLC and preorder stuff, for it not to at least feel like a completed game. I'll go back to the Witcher and wait for a patch to fix a few of the issues, admittedly struggling to get the game on the right settings is a bit of the masochism in being a pc guy. I can't convince to double-dip on PS4 though, I'll just wait for patches.... life as a pc gamer, lol.
Got the day off and finally playing this morning. Game looks amazing! And this is on PS4 I can just imagine how it looks on a high end PC
Just a heads up: Since WB cancelled the Collector's Edition they're giving away the New 52 skins pack for free on PS4 and Xbox One. Just search for it in the market place. You get 3 skins (1 for) for Robin, Batman, and Nightwing if my understanding is correct.
Thanks for the info! For those with an Xbox One, here's the link to download it! https://store.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox-One/DLC/New-52-Skins-Pack/676c616b-6999-4faf-b1e9-37414a839868
You're welcome! Honestly, I know they've gotten a lot of backlash over the DLC. Personally all I did was preorder, and I got 6 extra skins (3 are PS4 exclusive), scarecrow nightmare missions (PS4 exclusive), harley quinn missions, the red hood missions. I really doubt I'll even play with all of that, let alone buy anything additional. While I dislike pre-release DLC, I got a bunch of junk for virtually free. *shrug*
I pre-order from MicrosoftStore.com anyway, because they give you $10 for each game you pre-order, plus Bing Rewards and Xbox Rewards - so you get 15-20 bucks for each game you pre-order.
It's a secret. You figure it out as you play the game. Spoiler You cremate Joker at the beginning. I have to believe with so much emphasis put on that scene, that it's a fake body or something. I'm probably wrong though.
